I am so hopeless. We are going for the weekend, so 2 nights. DD goes to bed at 6:30/7 but we will obviously want to have dinner etc and not spend the evening in our room unable to make any noise because she's sleeping. What do you all do????

Book a serviced appartment! (You can sometimes get them with breakfast inc downstairs, and they clean/make beds)

You can then make a cuppa/pour a glass of wine and sit with your feet up in the lounge while DD sleeps soundly.

Ah but we are already booked in to a hotel! DH has done it as a birthday suprise.

why dant you make noise with dd asleep?
if you are staying in a nice hotel. order room service, and have wild wonderful sex....
either that, or stick her in a pushchair and take her to a restaurant and hope she will sleep throught whatever you are having.
or leave her at home.

How old is DD?

We took our 2 year old DD to Spain in June and although at home she always goes to sleep in her cot at 7.30pm, we took advantage of the time difference (7.30pm here is 8.3pm there) and either had an early meal with her still awake (till about 9.00pm their time), or a few times, picked a restaurant a good walk away (30 mins or so) and she dropped off in the buggy and slept soundly next to us in a noisy restaurant right through the meal. We got home about 10pm local time and just transferred her to the cot (made sure she was dressed in comfy sleeping type clothes, so we didn't have to change her when we got home).

God, I wish I could stop spelling apartment with a superfluous "p"! Lol, do it every time

No, I meant an apartment - I would def book one again (just had one in barcelona - worked really well for us).

Sorry, that doesn't seem to be much help for you, since you've already booked.. have put my foot right in it! I'm sure you can tire DD out during the day, have an early meal with her, then after 1/2 hour of pretending to be asleep, read by book-light!

Have a great time.

I must admit we used to take ours out with us; if in buggy they would just fall asleep. We'd never stay out very late but would be able to have a meal before going back to the hotel. Then I'd settle in with a book and a bath and dp would go down to the bar for a drink!

I used to put DS1 to sleep in the bathroom. Either in a travel cot in the bathroom, if there was room, or on the travel cot mattress in the bath itself.

Meant we had to pee quietly, but otherwise, quite successful - bathrooms are generally quite soundproof and dark, so good places to sleep, really.

Thanks so much for your replies - I didn't think about the time difference - a very good point indeed!!! I am now wondering if we all go out for an early meal and then walk around until she sleeps in her buggy and then we could all go to the hotel bar if it's a quiet one and she can carry on sleeping and we can have a quiet drink and then transfer her when we all go up to our room. She's a horribly light sleeper though!
