Paris with 8 month old - what to do?

So come on then - where should we go and what should we do? Staying near the Gare de Lyon, but don't plan on being too limited by that. Oh, and we're there for a week.

Also, any recommendations on baby friendly eateries would be good - we've started weaning, but it's a bit of a messy afair at the moment!

thanks

Haven't been back for a couple of years but both dcs born in Paris so have lots of experience of Paris with a baby. Not really sure what you are thinking of doing, but we took dd to lots of museums and galleries when she was a baby (something that was no longer possible when ds was born and we had a toddler in tow). With a pushchair you can usually leapfrog the queue (definitely so at the Louvre) so if you are culture vultures having a baby with you is a positive bonus. Metro is a bit of a nightmare with a pushchair - lots of steps and turnstiles at every station so you have to hang around until a member of staff opens the gate for you. Either use a sling or a backpack or take the bus. Paris is also very walkable - I used to walk miles - and you see more that way. Best eating OUT recommendation would be Pizza Milano in Place St Michel - it is on the banks of the Seine, opposite Notre Dame and if you go upstairs and get a window seat I'll bet there are few better views from any restaurant in the city. I think it is a Pizza Express (but we are talking family family-friendly here not gourmet eating) - they have highchairs, will heat up food for you or make something baby friendly. Otherwise Leon de Bruxelle (a chain of moules restaurants - all over the city) has high chairs so we used to go there a lot with kids. The Hippo chain is also very family friendly. Cafes and restaurants in general are happy to accommodate you with a baby, but many don't have highchairs so if you are going for the sling/backpack option that might be a bit awkward. Where is Anna888 - she will have a more up-to-date take. As for where to go and what to do - I could write a book. A couple of must dos - if you want to go up something I would go for the Tour Montparnasse, short queues, you go up by lift and its the only view point in the city where you don't have to look at the Tour Montparnasse. Stroll round the Ile St Louis - it's gorgeous - and while you are there cross over the river and have a look at the Institute du Monde Arabe (you can go up in the lift there for free and have a great view along the Seine). Have a great trip.

so how did you get on? we are going at the end of january with a 1 year old. everybody keeps going on about the parks but what about when it is raining or after dark? any additions to the family friendly restaurants with high chairs? we are staying near the batsille. cheers.

We've just got back with 7mo. No restaurant we went to had highchairs, so had to juggle ds between us while eating, or leave him in his pram. (then when pram broke 2nd last day, used his ergo sling, and could actually use it to tie him into the chair, so if you have a portable high chair/seat thingy, recommend you take it) Also no babychanging tables anywhere we went, so had to change him on toilet floors the whole week (portable change mat a must).

We took him everywhere we wanted to go, museums, walking about, shopping, restaurants, no problems at all (didn't do any parks). Again only prob with pram was metro, loads of steps to get up and down. Around the louvre if you don't plan well, you'll find loads of steps as well. But yes he did help us to queue jump to get in.

We stayed just off C-Ely so we could walk all the places we wanted to go. We had him out all day from about 10 until 8 or 9 and he was fine, slept in his pram or in the sling (with a snowsuit).
