Majorca lover? Plan me a Majorca holiday please!

It looks like there may be a slim chance we may be able to go on our summer holiday to Majorca after all. The problem is I've no idea what do do about that, having never been there before! We've only got flights booked (rolled over from a year ago), so could go anywhere in Majorca I guess - where should a family with DC of 9 and 7 go? What should we do when we're there? Any Majorca lovers happy to help me plan...?!

We really enjoyed both Puerto Pollensa and Cala D'or.
They are both really child friendly with lovely beaches.
In Puerto Pollensa, everything is mainly down a main street which has a lovely walk at the end, I think it's called the Pine walk.
Whereas in Cala D'or you go in to a town centre for the restaurants.
I think Cala D'or was slightly busier. In my opinion they are set up for tourists but remain unspoilt.

At odds with pretty much all of Mumsnet, I was meh about Puerto Pollensa.

I like Paguera. Just about everyone else who goes there is German, so you have to deal with English being the third language after Spanish and German, but it has 3 lovely beaches, pedestrianised promenade, not far from Palma and a really nice family atmosphere.

We're going to Palma Nova (fingers crossed). Never been before and interested in day trips to other parts of the island, so watching with interest.

Alcudia: safe swimming bay, great choice of restaurants and a nice, bustling atmosphere.
Puerto Pollensa: quieter but very pretty.
Am jealous!

Alcudia is lovely, has a gorgeous beach that could compete with the Caribbean! Lots of shops and bars etc, only thing was there's not really a proper promenade so you can't sit beach front at a bar or restaurant. There is a lovely part called Bellevue that has a river/canal with bars etc.

Palma nova I never stayed in but visited, gorgeous city with a huge castle

Callas de Mallorca is very very quiet, nice cove beaches but could get boring

Caves del Draque I thought were amazing.
We got a fairly cheap last minute deal and were actually staying in magaluf but at a really nice beach front hotel which was quiet and civilised Melia Calvia Beach.
I'd never been to Majorca before, I thought it was a lovely place and would happily go back

I would stay in a villa from bestvillasinpollensa a company who look after owners houses. They cover the pollensa, porta pollensa and alcudia area. We have used them 6 times. Never stayed in a bad one. A car is included in the deal which you pick up from the airport. Alcudia is lovely “old Roman town, cobbled streets, nice beaches”. I would go the the national park area South of the town and for beautiful walks seeing butterflies ans birds etc . I would have a day in Palma ( maybe on the last day if you fly late , see the streets, eat seafood , see the boats and shops.

We stayed in Can Picafort twice but explored the area up the coast a lot. While Port de Pollensa is a nice town I wasn't impressed with the beach, it's not pure sand, more gravel.

This year - rolled along from last year - we have a hotel at Playa del Muro, just south of Port Alcudia. Alcudia itself is nice, lively and has lots of good restaurants and shops.

I think it depends a lot what you expect from a town/resort and how much you want to go out and explore, eating out.

I'm not sure where you think you went but, ime, none of Puerto Pollensas beaches are gravel. I've been there a lot. It's pretty much my second home.

Well, it may not be technically gravel but it is defintely not the fine sand you have elsewhere.

The beach and sea at Play del Muro are gorgeous. Alcudia old town is lovely.

We hired a car even though we were AI. It’s really well sign posted and easy to get around.
The caves were great. We were at Callas de Majorca was quiet, so I suppose the car was handy.
