Well I was going to reply, but then I noticed your post was under Short-haul. I was going to suggest
Rex Grenadian in Grenada. We've been twice now. It's so fab. The flights aren't as bad as you think and there is no transfer at all. The kids club is good (weekdays only, but does great things) and the location is stunning. You would be able to get it in your budget too, but ring round to get best price.

We went last year and liked it so much we went back there again, six months later, in Feb. It is a gorgeous gorgeous island too.

The kids club is all included and I also forgot to say that the food is divine, and you'd get this all inclusive within your budget too. The cocktails are wicked too.

um, i think dd2 is still at quite a demanding age (she's higher maintenace than her sis at the sme age). we only discovered the club thing when dd2 was 2. it was our first real holiday since having them. guess i'm just a bit reluctant to forgo the club, now that i've had a taste of freedom. a couple of hours a day would do the trick.

cod, isnt periyali hugely expensive since the refurb?

pesto, thanks. am not opposed to a long flight, just assumed long haul would be out of our price range. will take a look. sounds fab.

It really is, please consider it. I have also got the email for the manager there, so if you did book it, you could politely request a room upgrade a week or so before you went. He is called Ken, and really lovely. Check out the reviews on Tripadvisor.com!

How about this

Vilasol

on the Algarve. Great kids' club, 3 pools, lovely food, not on the beach but they will take you there any time and collect you - they have their own beach with lots of toys.

noonar · 12/11/2007 11:18

cod, for us the club was the best thhing about mousses! how old are your dcs? mine were only just 2 and 4 when we went first time. it was a life saver! no way we could have just left them to it. they needed constatnt supervision, esp round the pool.

will look at portugal suggestion. thanks although i have heard there is some anti british sentiment there, atm...

i think age is the key thing, here. if you're out of toddler hood, can see it might not quite meet your needs.

also, making a big diff if they are strong swimmers, so you dont have to be quite as vigilant in the pool area. (dd1 aged 5 did her first strokes at mousses but we had to watch her like a hawk.

We have just done a half term holiday at "The Sheraton Algarve". It is a 5* and lovely. We had a suite in the hotel. We would certainly go back but ask to stay in one of the townhouses or villas next time only because you have more freedom with the kids.

My children are slightly older than yours but kids club was fantastic and they did a huge variety of activities.

Lots of choice with restaurants on the complex and a few just outside on the main street.

This is a golfing resort but we do not play, there were also a lot of other non golfers there aswell so it is not a problem.

Forgot to mention that this hotel has its own stretch of beach with cabanas/sunbeds etc that do not cost any extra. There is a lift so far down to the beach and the rest is by wooden steps which are spread out, ie not exactly one step straight after another. But my two boys had buckets and spades etc and it was no effort for them to be carried. You also get free towels to use around the pool and there is a hut on the beach which provides towels. This maybe a small thing but I think it is a big bonus when you have kids 'cos you just give the towels back at the end of the day and get fresh the next time.

this page may help

cardy · 12/11/2007 11:54

Noonar - I could have written this myself, My dds will be 4 and 6 - next May/June when we are looking to go and I am pretty much lookign for the same as you.

I would prefer a beach to a lake and I'm not too bothered about kids club as long as there is plenty for kids to do.

We went to Pollensa, Majorca last year and 3 years ago which was perfect and the Algarve 2 years ago but now the kids are older we need something to please all of us.

My kids just want other kids to play with, they're not bothered about the kids club although last year they loved the kids entertainment in the evenings...I didn't

noonar · 12/11/2007 12:23

maybe by next summer dd2 will be a bit more self sufficient...you never know.

am thinking about tamarisk beach in turkey with crystal, as another possibility.( maybe some kind person would do me a link )

Noonar, Rex Grenadian has 2 beaches and a lake.

noonar · 12/11/2007 12:37

hi again pesto. virgin want 4.5k to go in august. expedia was less, but flights turned out not to be available.

Noonar, look on Teletext P206 (itv). You can get the Rex at much better prices than Virgin, through several companies (I'd go through Co-Op travel). And Virgin will usually price match too if you've found the holiday with Virgin flights. I usually play them all off against each other. You should easily be able to get it within your budget with a bit or ringing around... I'm tempted to do it for you!

PestoMonster · 12/11/2007 12:43

Oh and Excel Airways also go there and if you do the holiday using their flights, it works out cheaper.

cardy · 12/11/2007 14:19

this? turkey

noonar · 12/11/2007 15:44

thanks cardy. thats the one. ithink it works out quite expensive for B&B, though, esp as we're not really into water sports.

pesto, i looked at travel republic but was confused by huge range of room types. didnt know what to go for/ how they compare with virgin.
