When will travel traffic light list come out?

Hi all. I think it’s tomorrow the report on travel will come out. However, seem to recall reading somewhere that the actual list of which colour various countries will be in will only be available some time in May? Does anyone on here know? Asking as I have my only living parent in a different country and also probably need to deal with the faffery of yet again moving a holiday booked last year as I suspect the country will be amber.

I think I read it was around the 10th May - so just a week ahead of the earliest proposed travel date!! Not long to get sorted but I guess it gives the government sufficient time to look into who is green, amber etc

NoMoreLimbo · 11/04/2021 13:51

Thanks @ureterr1blemuriel !
My trip is on 29th so hoping it will be green or I will move. Again!

Suspect they will keep on changing it at short notice anyway.

rookiemere · 11/04/2021 18:56

But even Green requires an expensive PCR test and some self isolation I think.
I wish they'd just cancel everything until we've got ourselves properly sorted in UK e.g. most of population vaccinated.

We have a carryover week in Majorca mid August with another family and where it not for them and DHs natural enthusiasm I'd move it now to 2022. We're in Scotland so we'll likely get none of the benefits of foreign travel being allowed, but all of the drawbacks from potential new variants.

ureterr1blemuriel · 11/04/2021 19:16

@NoMoreLimbo Which country is it? There’s still a good few weeks for stats. to get better.

We haven’t booked but have a child free half term (first one ever) as the GP’s are taking the kids on a staycation. We are desperate to go anywhere and are prepared to pay for PCR tests. It’ll be a last minute thing I expect but hoping to get something sorted.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 11/04/2021 19:18

Doesn’t matter when it comes out, it can and will change at short notice.

That’s going to be the risk associated with overseas travel for any reason and why I’m not going to be able to book anything as I cannot work from home.

Bul21ia · 11/04/2021 19:18

@rookiemere I’m with you on that one! The constant change is too much.

ureterr1blemuriel · 11/04/2021 19:24

WFH is the deciding factor. My boss is ace and said I can work from home if I need to quarantine. We booked Greece last summer and managed a fortnight in August with no problems. The Telegraph has a great travel sections where they report on cases, vaccinations etc and that with other research helped our planning (booked 3 weeks before departure).

rookiemere · 11/04/2021 19:28

@ureterr1blemuriel it's DS going back to school that's the issue. We'd booked our holidays for the last week before going back and even Green countries require 2 days of isolation which means him missing the first day of school. Not critical I know but he has missed so much face to face education over the past 13 months that I don't want to be responsible for him missing even more.

NoMoreLimbo · 11/04/2021 20:21

@ureterr1blemuriel the half term trip is to Greece. 29/5 departure from England. Moved from 2020..!
I managed to go to both Greece in July and Madeira in September last year. I hope it will be green by end May as the stats can change but I suspect amber. I check on reuter as don’t have a Telegraph subscription (and all the great, I agree they have a great travel section but I have exhausted my free access, articles are hidden behind the paywall) I don’t mind the self isolation for me personally but the DCs cannot miss school. I’m single parent as well so the ex DP would certainly not agree to that.
Also there is no way I can pay for expensive PCR tests for all three of us (2 x DC) plus my youngest is on the spectrum so I’m not sure a test would even be possible due to DCs anxiety.
@rookiemere where have you seen 2 days self isolation for green countries?
I have tried to read up but find contradictory articles in various papers.

rookiemere · 11/04/2021 20:36

@NoMoreLimbo it was DH who told me about it - he has an online Daily Telegraph subscription- I'm afraid I can't confirm the details as I have been rather avoiding much news these days, plus as I'm in Scotland there's no point getting my hopes up about things happening in England.

Ellmau · 18/04/2021 14:37

Leaked list is a bit short, and some we can't go to anyway, eg Australia and NZ: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9483201/Only-eight-countries-set-feature-green-travel-list-overseas-holiday-ban-lifts-17.html

NoMoreLimbo · 18/04/2021 16:04

@Ellmau. Thanks for the link.

Interestingly I just read this on the gov website:
Summary
Still current at:
18 April 2021
Updated:
13 April 2021
Latest update:
Full editorial review of the 'Coronavirus' section.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) advises against all but essential travel to:
Greece based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks. The FCDO is not advising against travel to the islands of Rhodes, Kos, Zakynthos, Corfu and Crete.

Agree with this

If it's like last year, you could find yourself having to scramble for seats out before a rule change (losing part of your time away, and paying well over the normal price) or facing 10 days isolation (maybe only 5 if test and release sticks around, but I'm not counting on anything)

Ellmau · 18/04/2021 16:11

My boss was great about allowing last minute WFH last year when I got caught by a rule change, but if it happened again this year I think it would be met with less sympathy, so I'm sticking with the UK.

Parker231 · 18/04/2021 21:18

According to the Telegraph, research predicted the USA, Iceland, Israel, Gibraltar, Malta, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand will be the only countries added to the green list of travel destinations.
Places like France and Croatia will be on the red list.
No sure how much truth there is as Australia and New Zealand won’t let us in anyway. One thing for Boris to classify the countries but it’s for the individual countries to decide whether we can enter.

NoMoreLimbo · 19/04/2021 06:50

@Parker231 I also saw an article where it listed exactly those, but mentioned that some Spanish and Greek islands may be on different lists to their mainland.

I guess the latest the official list will be made available is 14 days prior the 17th of May.

OP posts:
SJaneS49 · 19/04/2021 15:01

What I read this morning suggested France and Croatia should be red but more likely would be amber.

We’ve given up and moved our abroad holiday to next Mays half term and booked a week in the Peaks. At this point it just looks like it will be a repetition of last year with countries going on and off lists at short notice.

Not to say I’m not going to be hugely jealous of people who do brave it and go!

Parker231 · 19/04/2021 15:24

Our families are in Belgium, Canada and the US so desperately waiting to see when we travel to them again. DD moved to Brussels last September to start her first job - didn’t think that we would still be waiting to see her again.
