Short break on Liverpool with teen DD

balzamico · 01/04/2021 12:13

To celebrate finishing her "exams", I'm taking dd on a 3/4 night city break, we would have gone abroad but that's looking unlikely so we've decided on Liverpool as she's a massive music fan.
Well do the Beatles trail and the Cavern club and lots of shopping but I thought it worth asking if anybody has any recommendations for stuff we might not otherwise find, great places to eat and drink or visit?
We'll stay near the waterside area in an air bnb

My daughter likes The Butterfly and the Grasshopper, Papillon on Hope Street and the Baltic Market.

Smarshian · 01/04/2021 19:09

The Baltic market definitely. Worth doing something like ghetto golf too. World museum is great too.

waitingfortonight · 01/04/2021 19:12

Ah I loved my time in Liverpool.

Stumbled on Albert Dock and found the area to be a complete hub, it was buzzing. Really enjoyed the museum and history on titanic.

I was there as part of a work function and we also visited the Titanic bar I think it was called, and Annfield football stadium.

Just really good memories. I fancied a bus tour but ran out of time, may be a shout.

Enjoy it when it comes!

Drink at My Prosecco Bar, Be At One, Red Door, The Oracle and ArCains
Eat at Crazy Pedro’s for pizza and Camp & Furnace (especially on a Friday)
Bowling at PINS social club and crazy golf at Ghetto Golf
Check out the street art in the Baltic Triangle and also the Iron Men/Another Place sculpture on Crosby beach. The beach itself is a bit sludgy and you can’t swim, but the sunsets can be incredible and the 100 Iron Men dotted along the beach make it slightly surreal. Most days you can get ice cream and fish and chips. To get there, take the train from Central Station or Moorfields to Waterloo. From there you can walk down to the beach.
Have a picnic in Festival Gardens

GeorgeandHarold66 · 01/04/2021 19:18

Quirky quarter is great for a visit, you'll come away with tons of memorable photos.

Ex-directory is fun for cocktails or a meal.

The Baltic triangle can be fun for a visit

And The world museum has an exhibition called "AI more than human" which sounds really good.

Panoramic 34 does a great afternoon tea with views across the city.

Oh and for something completely different you could do axe throwing at hatchet Harry's.

fightingirish · 01/04/2021 19:18

Best city in the world! And I'm Irish!

Watching with interest- thank you!

Ferry across the Mersey is a must do, you can do an hour round trip or get off at Seacombe, walk along the prom (about 2 miles) to New Brighton, get the train back

Visit one of the two cathedrals if they are open, great views fron the Anglican Cathedral tower.
Trip up the Radio City Tower also great views across the city,
Visit to the Mersey tunnels also interesting.
Plenty of art galleries and musuems to choose from

seriousandloyal · 01/04/2021 19:33

Following with interest, thanks for all the suggestions so far, am thinking of doing similar in June.

therestissilence · 01/04/2021 19:46

The Alert Dock and Pier Head, as others have said.

Lark Lane is bus ride / taxi ride away in South Liverpool but is a lovely, rather iconic street with independent bars, restaurants and shops. It's just across the road from the gorgeous Sefton Park.

More centrally, make sure to visit Bold Street. Great buzz about it (in normal times) - again, independent shops and restaurants.

The Magical Mystery Tour would be a great shout if you daughter is into the Beatles. And you'll get a taste of the famous Scouse humour from the driver, too (though you're likely to get that everywhere!)

As someone else has said, Gormley's 'Iron Men' statues on Crosby Beach is a must see, if you have the time.

Even with a corrupt and rotten-to-the-core council, Liverpool remains a fantastic, historical, vibrant and friendly city. I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay!

You already have some top tips
Liverpool is a compact walkable city centre with lots usually going on, Bold Street ( Leading to Bombed out Church) and Lark Lane ( A short drive ) are the Go to places for food.
Some info here

www.donthibernate.co.uk/liverpool/

The Hidden gem in Liverpool is the Watersport’s place does a Speed Boat ride through the docks as some docks have no speed limit its cold so wrap up, but fantastic, £50 for a family of 4.

They also do lots of other activities so well worth a look.
www.liverpoolwatersports.org.uk/activities/powerboating

The Wirral, Chester North wales are all 10-60 minutes away and have lots to offer.
If you are a Beatles fan

Any questions just ask

Food - Id recommend The Quarter, off Hope Street, Bistro Pierre on Button Street and Trattoria51 on Old Hall St. Theres plenty of standard high street franchises at Liverpool 1 also. Lark Lane is ok but instead of making it look like a chic Parisian boulevard with outdoor seating, the plebs at the council have managed to make it look like a building site with chunky red and white plastic roadworks fencing to separate seating from the road (which can get very busy and theres a LOT of taxis so the air can get thick with diesel fumes, so not exactly ideal for enjoying an alfresco meal). Theres an abundance of choice there, and its popular with the student population. Despite appearances, Keith's wine bar has a good wine selection 😉. Stuff to do - Chambre Hardman's house on Rodney Street is worth a visit, I only went as I mystery shopped there for the National Trust. Glad i did, as it was really interesting. Plenty of museums, the Tate, more National Trust stuff at Speke Hall, the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour bus (not operating at present though) or a Fab Four Taxi Tour. Loads. Its all on my doorstep, I should do some of it myself 😂

torquewench · 13/04/2021 06:41

A pp has suggested a picnic in Festival Gardens. If they mean the one on Riverside Drive, there arent any facilities near there, and theres a huge construction site right next to it, so I'd give that a miss for a while, unless you like listening to generators, diggers and piledrivers, which I get to enjoy daily Nearby Sefton Park would be a bit more relaxing at the moment.

AuntieMarys · 13/04/2021 06:51

The bombed out church

balzamico · 20/07/2021 16:31

We went and had the most amazing few days, it's a great city, loads to do (lots we didn't get to do) and some fantastic restaurants.
The most important thing is that for 3 days we got on brilliantly, no cross words and although we get on pretty well at home, that is gold for us.
