Tell me what you know about Chicago

I am hoping to visit Chicago in July (if restrictions allow me to and with rumours of the US border reopening to the British in May gives me a glimmer of hope)

What are your recommendations for the city? Sights? Which hotel did you stay at and would you recommend it? I want to go Monday to Sunday - is this too long?

Thanks Smile

@zafferana lovely! Here’s to hope that we all can go! California is beautiful.

@SorrelForbes those apartments look gorgeous! The facade of the building is stunning! Ican see what people mean about Chicago’s architecture being beautiful. Can’t wait to see what the city has to offer. That restaurant sounds delicious.

www.forbes.com/sites/alexledsom/2021/03/23/us-travel-reports-that-biden-will-lift-eu-uk-travel-ban-by-mid-may/amp/ according to this report (and a few others) - the US border is aiming to reopen by “mid-May” to the UK/EU so hopefully that materializes. I feel confident that late June/early July will be ok if you’re travelling to the US

I'm feeling cautiously confident too!

It's been a while since I was last there but I loved the city.

Had some super nights in Buddy Guy's legends.
Frequented Pequods pizza in Lincoln Park area. Fab pizza.
So much to see and do, and such a stylish city. Enjoy!

@SorrelForbes I hear you! It's too early to tell at the moment what the situation will be by June/July/August. Most adults in both countries should have had at least one, and many two, doses of vaccine by then and that will be MASSIVE game-changer. We can already see the impact it's having here and in Israel, which is the only decent-sized country that is ahead of us. I really want to get excited, but I'm holding it in check for now and sticking with cautious optimism. Fingers crossed for us all!

The Frank Lloyd Wright stuff is amazing. DH and I had a day in Oak Park pre-kids, went to his home/studio, walked around the streets nearby where he designed several of the houses, the Unity Temple, then went to the Robie House (which is on the campus of the University of Chicago), they were all fab. The Oriential Institute Museum is amazing too - I forgot that one in my original list - it's across the street from the Robie House.

We went 4 years ago with our 3 dc. We went partly to visit friends but we didn't stay with them and spent half the time doing our own thing. I probably wouldnt have visited there if didnt have friends there but I loved it much much more than i thought i would.
We stayed at the Palmer House Hilton, it was the cheapest hotel in the Loop as part of a BA package. Great location, faded granduer air to it.
There was loads for the DC, Shedd aquarium, Field natural history museum, the zoo, the 2 big skyscrapers were amazing. We bought a city pass to visit all of them.
Our hotel was near the lake, which was so beautiful, like being at the sea.
Not many tourists when we went in may half term. The weather was perfect then, may be a lot hotter in july. We had a boat trip. Navy Pier was not really worth going to I thought. The Bean and the parks around it are lovely.
Friendly people, we also got free desert one evening. Yes to the wildberry cafe for breakfast.
