Cheap snow holiday

We are a family of 5 and whilst I love love love a beach / pool holiday our children have all asked for a snow holiday.

They are not adventurous so the youngest two and me def won't want to try skiing but eldest and DH may.

I think they have watched too many Christmas movies and they want snow, maybe a husky ride etc.

I have briefly looked at Lapland but as we are limited to Xmas or Feb half term prices are eye watering.

Has anyone been on a snow / winter holiday and any recommendations?

Thanks

I’m not sure I would enjoy a full on snow holiday without skiing - there’s not that much else to do in a ski resort. Would it be better to go to a “normal” holiday location but in winter eg Iceland maybe?

Just to add we did Iceland cheaply - self catering Airbnb, hired a car and drove ourselves around. But eating out there is very very expensive.

Iceland. Breathtaking country! But expensive eating out.

Go to aviemore, drive so carry sleds etc. Nice zoo, bike routes at lower levels if not too snowy too. Far from the best snow but for a long weekend it's perfect (plus use of nhs so no need for expensive ski insurance, can drive etc)

Finland is really good value (but go for full board as self catering will be expensive) as it's not fashionable. It's ideal if some of your group don't want to ski.

You won't get guaranteed snow at any point in Iceland. It's not that kind of climate - it's actually rather mild here despite the name. Like it will definitely snow at several points during the winter but you can't reliably predict which points these will be. White Christmases are maybe 50/50 or even less chance.

There will be snow in the mountains and highlands of course but access to these can be quite dangerous or impossible in the winter.

I don't recommend Iceland for what you seem to have in mind.

Thanks that's a great idea
