Travelling in July 2021

Hi all

We are all booked for a holidays in July to a non red list country. I am all confused about testing rules and quarantine. It is aimed that all restrictions will be lifted by 21 June. Does this mean masks and travel testing and quarantine will also be done with.

I got cheap fully refundable tickets, so I am not very worried about losing money but should I be getting ready for cancellation or excited for the trip?

I know no one knows for sure but what are ur best guesses.

Truthfully I wouldn’t think so. Even if we do well in the U.K. entirely possible the country you are travelling too will be behind our vaccine schedule and want tests.

We’ve a three country trip booked for August (all cancellable or moveable). I have looked at the entry and travel within country requirements for all three recently but am hoping by mid July it will be a sunnier picture -but I’m not counting on it.

As the situation is in state of flux, maybe best that it’s something not to stress about until much closer the time as quite honestly speaking on a personal note. trying to second guess the situation is all a bit stress inducing with the ‘what ifs?’!

Thank you, SJane. My thoughts exactly.
Let's hope for the best and try not to think that much in the future.

Exactly, what will be will be & if the last 12 months has shown us anything it’s that there is no second guessing what will happen. So on that basis, I’m trying not to drive myself mental!

TBH I’m sure I’d be more excited than normal if we have to turn our trip to a UK break just as anywhere outside the local environment will seem a blessing. But here’s hoping anyway and crossed fingers!

That's right. I was also thinking that if we get to know about cancellation in time I will book something in UK with more certainty. Kids are going crazy at home for a year and schools are also quite stressful at the moment.

I think it depends where you're planning to go OP and it also depends what the UK's govt's Global Travel Taskforce announces on 12th April. That's the day when they are due to let us know what will be happening about the reopening of overseas travel. Obviously whatever the UK decides, it will depend on other countries whether they will actually accept UK visitors, but we're unlikely to know anything concrete until then. Keep an eye on the news though, particularly the travel sections of the main newspapers, as the writers have contacts within the travel industry who may get a whiff of the way the wind in blowing.

Where the UK or any other country will be with regard to restrictions in June is an absolute complete unknown and TBH I think the prospects for international travel won't be much clearer in five or six weeks time.

In the last year even people "in the travel industry" have been caught out/had to change plans at the last moment due to changing restrictions...Blush

The only advice I'd offer is stay flexible on any travel plans for as long as possible.

Just about to shift our July (rebooked) trip to se Asia. Originally booked mid 2019.. Think we will go to next year. That'll be the 4th rebooking but even if we can go from a uk perspective, it will likely involve hotel quarantine at the other end. It just wouldn't be the relaxing experience we need it to be.

I think long haul is going to be a proper ball ache until at least next year. Sad

Aloneonprecipice · 09/03/2021 10:59

@carlycornwall is ur destination country currently in red list for hotel quarantine or are u expecting it to be entered in the red list at the time of ur travel?

OP posts:
carlycornwall · 09/03/2021 14:22

It's not on the red list but entry is currently so restricted that we'd need to quarantine on arrival even with a vaccine and negative test.

We would lose a week of holiday and incur hundreds of extra cost by trying to go as things stand. Not worth it, much as I am desperate for the holiday.

SJaneS49 · 09/03/2021 17:30

Worth holding on till closer to the time to it @carlycornwall to see if the situation changes at all? What goes in March might/might not be a different picture come the summer.

carlycornwall · 09/03/2021 19:56

God I hope so. It's such a dream trip and we could really do with it, (as could everyone right now, I know) We first lost it at the 11th hour last March and I was desperate for a break thenSad

We have until early may to pay the final balance. I guess things will be clearer then.

zafferana · 10/03/2021 14:51

Yeah, I'd definitely wait for now @carlycornwall. The govt taskforce on global travel is due to make its report public on 12th April with a view to possibly starting international travel on 17th May, so it's worth waiting for that before you make a decision.
