I've read about a village called Ambleside in my book - it sounds lovely, little cafes and cake/little shops nice walks, etc. I really fancy a few days of coffee/cake and some boutique shops.
Can anybody recommend anywhere else that is like this?

In the lake District? Or UK wide? What book?!

Keswick we feel is slightly nicer, proper market on Saturdays, more locals than tourists but both good to see.

Conwy in Wales? Its a Medieval walled town, loads to see and do locally via bus or short drive
www.donthibernate.co.uk/conwy/
Its a fantastic base for seeing the area as loads to see and do within 30 mins drive

Llandudno is very nice about 15 mins drive but its a regular bus route

The Conwy Valley is spectacular Bodnant Gardens, and a Go ape thing,
Go to Betws y coed to see Fairy Glen Its 30 mins from Conwy

Many villages in the Lake District are like that, same for the Yorkshire dales and much of Northumberland. I also prefer Keswick but there seems to be less hotels than around Windermere lake so we don’t go often enough.

Most of Northumberland :)

Ooh yes the cotswolds are lovely and exactly like this. Personally I’m not a fan of the Peak District but I think that’s because the Dales and Lakes are closer to me and much much nicer so it just doesn’t stand a chance of impressing me. They do have good caves though.

Why not just go to Ambleside?

You can use the lake cruises to go between Bowness and Ambleside.

Which book are you reading?

Grasmere is cute as... great book shop, cafes, a lake, a puzzle shop, pubs, walks :)

I liked Bowness when I went there pre-children. Nice bars and restaurants, nice walks, nice little shops.

Why not just go to the Lake District? Confused

garlictwist · 09/03/2021 11:14

Ambleside is basically a massive traffic jam for 90% of the year.

Bakewell
Alnwick.

Grassington. We are going there for 2 nights on the 25th of April and cannot wait!

I loved our stay in Ironbridge too. The people were so, so friendly.

Pooley Bridge is LD but a lovely little find. Smaller than Ambleside but enough pubs, restaurants and little shops to keep one busy for a few days.
