European sea and old town type place where it’s easy to be vegetarian!

I’m just imagining holidays right now, so this is all theoretical, but I look into a town only to find that I can never find anywhere that caters for vegetarians beyond a margarita pizza or a tomato mozzarella salad.

Has anyone found anywhere amazing?

Of the places mentioned here I have been to , Lagos (Algarve) , Sitjes and Nerja are all places of a nice size ; big enough for there to be plenty of choice of eateries but still have an old town feel . I liked Alicante too .

Interesting to hear what people are saying about Germany. I wonder if it is the same throughout the country, or if things have changed a lot in last 15 years . I've been a couple of times to Black Forest area and food was definitely very much meat based at the time we went . (And obviously that isn't by the sea )

@EileenGC aehm, Germany has several beautiful preserved or carefully re-build medival cities, more castles than you can count and a more old European town vibe than lots of English cities. It all depends where you go to. Germany is too large to discount it for maybe one bad experience.

No idea about vegetarian as we are meat eaters but in the past when we went with family for meals you have to be careful with traditional meat and two veg places as they may only do a token vegetarian dish but you will find a huge varietey of restaurants, italiian, greek, turkish, bistros etc.

@reluctantbrit what I meant is that combined with OP’s requirement of having to be by the sea and veggie-friendly, there isn’t a huge choice in Germany. I didn’t speak from a bad experience, I actually live here Grin

@shinynewapple21 you’re right, Bavaria and southern Germany in general, are known for their meat-based traditional cuisine. It’s true, I wouldn’t expect to have much choice in a tiny village in the Black Forest, they’ll mostly serve traditional food which is always big piece of meat with side veg. Cities and bigger towns are really easy for eating out as veggie, as are supermarkets. They cater really well for veggie/vegan diets. Here up North more than in the South, I have to say!
