ryanair and infants

I think i am being really thick but I can 't find the answer on the ryanair website. I am trying to book flights with ryanair and i put in 2 adults and 1 infant and the prices come up as 1p for the adult seat and £7.00 for the infant - does that mean that my DS gets a separate seat or is he still expected to sit on my lap - i am assuming he still has to sit on my lap as he has no baggage allowance. In this case would i not be better of booking for 3 adults all at 1p each and DS getting his own seat and baggage allowance??

Generally on airlines infants are on your lap. Over 2's are classed as children and they get a seat so yes I would book another seat for him so you get the extra room during flight. He'll still have to be on your lap for take off and landing but you'll get extra space and luggage allownace for less money!!!

iirc the £7 is the usual admin/booking fee for the infant, who does in fact travel free

mazzystar · 01/11/2007 15:43

flew to sweden with dd in the summer and afaik, you are not allowed to book an extra seat for infants, nor do they get a baggage allowance.
its ironic that the admin charge for infants is more than the adult fare!
have to say the staff were brill and v helpful - also def worth paying for priority boarding.

forgot to say, flew with ryan air

Mazzystar is correct as we found out flying Ryanair this summer. DS turned 2 whilst we were away so I decided just to book him a seat both ways. Someone mentioned on here that there may be a problem and sure enough, even if you are prepared to pay for them a seat, you can't if they are under 2. So he was on our knee going out without any luggage allowance, and had a seat of his own coming back with an allowance. A pointless allowance really as we had less stuff to bring back.

thanks for your replies, it makes sense now that i know you don't pay the taxes for the infant!
