going on Saturday and have no idea what the weather will be like.......plus DH has said to take hand luggage only and we will buy new luggage whilst there and buy new clothes too!!! Wowwwww - but still leaves me pondering what I can fit in a small bag (hmmmmmmmmmmm unlikely to get half my wardrobe in.)

Any tips/pointers from seasoned travellers?

your DH is right
take an empty case for all the stuff you will buy
pound at an all time high against the dollar

Super is right - you need comfy shoes as you will walk a lot

Take all the labels off your new clothes and wear them, especially shoes. Scuff up your new bags a bit too. Stuff your receipts in an envelope and post them home. NB this is not in attempt to evade customs duty, oh no

Remember that you can only take 100ml liquid containers in your hand luggage. You can buy toiletries airside though.

brill advice CHippy!! Anyone know what the limit is on how much you can "spend" before paying duty?

200 cigarettes; or 100 cigarillos; or 50 cigars; or 250 gms of tobacco

2 litres of still table wine

1 litre of spirits or strong liqueurs over 22% volume; or 2 litres of fortified wine, sparkling wine or other liqueurs

60cc/ml of perfume

250cc/ml of toilet water

£145 worth of all other goods including gifts and souvenirs

DH is a past master, he gets to go at least once a year while i get to stay at home . But did i read somewhere that customs know if you go out with hand luggage and come back with checked baggage? Anyone else heard this? Might be worth checking in an empty-ish case?

Ooh,we're going next Thursday Harrogatemum.
Been out this morning and bought new trousers and a few tops.(needed something smart to fly Upper Class and see 'Phantom' on Broadway on Friday night.Don't think my usual Converse/jeans/hoodie would cut it somehow.)
We're planning on taking a half-filled suitcase each.

Take a list of things you might want to buy and how much they cost here in the UK. Then when you are there you will know whether or not you are making a saving. Also, remember that to every price advertised in the shops, they will add on a state tax at the till (unless you are shopping at a tax-free place). So make sure you find out what that %age is. SOrry, it's so long since I last went that I can't remember what rate it was added at.

Enjoy!

take an empty suitacse with bare essential and fill it when you're out there
take good shoes, you'll walk your legs and toes off

Enjoy tis fabulous!
