Hand luggage allowance query - anyone been away recently?

I think I'm being a little dim, but it is over a year since I last travelled abroad. These luggage restrictions involving liquids, is it only hand luggage that they apply to or can you not have any liquid in a volume higher than 100ml? I checked the DfT website, and it doesn't specify that the restrictions are hand luggage only, and I thought that they were.

Hand luggage only.

and in a plastic resealable bag

However, you can buy liquids over that amount once you are through security as long as you keep the receipts to prove that you bought them airside.

Aaah brilliant. Wasn't looking forward to flight with no water. Thank you all very much.

Just remember that you'll have to take them back in checked in luggage as the same rules apply coming back in as well .. (ruefully remembering the rather expensive cream gleefully chucked in the bin by Ms Customs Officer)

Have a lovely time !

You're welcome! Are you going anywhere nice?

Good point pesto - if you travel with hand luggage only, you can stock up on travel toiletries in Boots once airside.

The restriction applies to stuff like make-up and lipsalve too, so stick them in the plastic bag and keep it handy to be scanned separately.

Small exception to the "you can fly with anything you buy airside" rule is if you are on a flight that connects through another airport. For example you can't take duty free liquids to Australia - they are confiscated at the stopover airport.

You're also limited to just one piece of handluggage in most airports now, so if you have a handbag and another bag, the handbag has to fit in the other one to go through security IFYWIM. Right pain when travelling with a laptop! Also, the container has to be smaller than 100ml, not just the amount of liquid. I had a tiny bit of toothpaste left in a 200ml tube, thought it would be ok as obviously almost empty but they took it off me.

Going to Lanzarote with 3 month and 21 month old. No probs with hand bags and stuff, a rucksack will do me. No need for bottles either. Problem is we all have stinking colds so take off is going to be great
