DH and I are takiing the 2 dd's (8 and 6) to London tomorrow (non-pupil day) so we are planning our day. I fncy a nice lunch somewhere with them, but am a bit stumped.

I have seen recommendations for Giraffe, Pizza Express etc, but anyone got any good iodeas of 'nice' places without the typical chicken nuggets as a kids meal, that my 2 will enjoy??

Central please as we haven't actually decided what we are doing!!

I'd like to say that this thread has energised me to take my three girls out to London tomorrow. The boys are back at school - so divide and conquer!

lyra unsure on budget, all I know is that I don't want to pay £7 for chicken nuggets and chips IYKWIM. Price depends on quality, Wagamamas is good value as is sofra, I also think other far more pricey places are good value as they are worth it IYWIM.

However I think TGI's and Rainforest are expensive as the food is c**p

I don't blame you. I hate being given children's menus which are all burger, sausage, pizza or chicken nuggets, served with chips and beans. I get funny looks when I ask if they can have some vegetables/salad.

I know Rainforest Cafe is expensive (London prices, really), but the food is OK.

I last went with my teenage boys and my Godson and they were certainly happy with what the had (ribs, fillet steak... - sharp intake of breath from me and an extra glass of wine).

MG I looked at the Woolsey and I was v v tempted I have always wanted to go myself anyway, teh menu looks great too

BTW lyra is you like fish try back to basics This HAS to be one of my fave london places. GREAT food, chilled atmosphere. I ended up at 4pm playing football in the street with a load of media execs and local school kids one sunny afternoon!!

Well if you're going for posh, then the Chop House on the south bank overlooking Tower Bridge can't be beaten. Even more post is the Pont De La Tour next door but not sure how child friendly it is.

Here is a must: Bodeans on Poland St nr Oxford Circus. It's an American BBQ place with college football on the screens and booths etc downstairs (civilised though!) and just fast food on the ground level. As a hardened non-football and non-burger person, I adored the place! Rack of ribs, half a chicken etc etc.

SuperMonkey · 29/10/2007 14:56

Ooh yes, how could I forget Bodeans. Kids love it (as do the grown ups).

where did you go and did you have a fab time??

I usually take my child to wagamama, yo sushi (Ds loves sushi since he was a year old ) and cafe/ restaurant at Peter Jones in chelsea, it's on top floor and has a lovely view overlooking London..and child menu.

Regarding the Wolseley, I agree with wheely bug, it's not child friendly..been there a few times for afternoon tea with friends but never thought about taking my child. Giraffe is also very well known for child friendly restaurant. We didn't like the food but worth a try.
