Evening,

I'm looking to book a holiday to Ireland in August, if we are allowed, I'm looking at the west Atlantic Coast but open to other areas, would anyone have some suggestions, I've only been to Belfast and Dublin for work trips, looking at the coast, we also like mountains and walking and we will have the dog with us.

Many Thanks

Whatever you do book it now! It’s likely that travel out of Ireland will not be happening this summer so all of Ireland will be holidaying at home and everything will be booked out. You will also need to look at quarantine/self-isolating arrangements which are about to become stricter. Donegal/Sligo are both spectacular and tend to be less busy than Galway/Clare/Kerry/Cork which were rammed last year.

The South West is amazing too! Kerry has some beautiful mountains that you can climb and go on adventures. At the moments for travel to Ireland you need a Negative Covid test 72 hours before travel, depending on what level they are in will depend what will be open, They are currently in Level 5 restrictions but that should fingers crossed be gone by March.

FAQs, I say this gently but I’d think again this year. I don’t think visitors from other countries will be welcome this year, even with a negative test and quarentining. There’s a lot of upset currently about Irish people going on holidays out of the country, I think visitors will be coolly welcomed. Hopefully next year?

I’d fly into or ferry to Belfast to be safer, more likely to be able to travel as it’s U.K.- then hire a car and go up to the Giants cause way and go round the coast to Donegal and further down on the WildnAtalntic way. It’s an amazing trip.

If quaranting etc is still in place you can't ignore it by flying into Belfast and crossing into Ireland by car!

County Mayo is one of my most favourite places in the world. The most beautiful scenery. We usually stay near Westport and the do day trips to Achill Island or up into Sligo.

It’s not like there’s a big wall along the border... people have been as I’m sure you know. Anyway OP has the option to then stay in the north and tour around if they prefer...

Trust me - you’ll be fine flying into Belfast and crossing the border in Fermanagh or Donegal. I live on this border and have been stopped once in a year. We need the business so you’d be welcome! The inly way you’d know you’ve crossed countries is the line in the middle of the road looks different 🤣🤣
