has anyone stayed in onne of the standard 3 bed. woodland villas at Oasis? The only ones available when we want to go are situated at "3 oaks" (?), and the reservaton person said these are about 15-20 mins walk to the dome. we are going with 9 mth old ds and parents, and not sure if these would be too far out, especially f weather is bad. Any general advice on Oasis welcome also.

Alibo, have you been to Oasis before? Have you been to any of the other Center Parcs villages???

alibo · 26/10/2004 20:29

woodpops, hi, no to both questions, we're first timers!!

Some of the villas are a real hike from the centre and by this I mean up steep forest paths. You cna do it with a buggy but you will sometimes have a much longer walk if you are doing it on the main roads.

Having said that we have done it with a 9 month old from one of the far flung parts and it was just about ok, but there was no popping back to the villa now and again usually had to make a day of it once we were out IYKWIM.

hi
we were at oasis whinfell in september and stayed in a 4 bed detatched woodland lodge.
it was a good 20-30 mins walk from main centre or about 15 mins from sports plaza.
we have 18 month old and s.i.l has 14 month old, s.i.l and b.i.l hired bikes with baby seat on back and we prefered to walk (take good comfy shoes and no flashy clothes if your that far out, you wont want to walk all that way to centre for a night out!)
rained 3 out of 4 days we were there, but once you realise-its just rain, it was great!
you forget about the distance you have to walk (theres always something to break the walk up- lakeside inn, sports plaza, aqua sana etc) as theres so much beautiful stuff to look at (your ds with love the wild (but tame) rabbits, pheasants, red squirrils and robins thancome really close).
tips:
take only clothes you feel comfy in and not too many of them (jeans, jumpers, t.shirts, trainers/walking shoes, water proof coats etc).
book all things you want to try out(especially baby things and aquasana before you get there or asap, they were all full up when we were there.
take a torch, electric was being worked on one night and you dont realise how black pitch black can be, also v.scary with little ones as what would you do in an emergency? plus, if you go out for a takeaway even on bike its pretty dark.
get to baths for 10am opening if your taking ds, nice and quiet and planty of kiddies pools.

hope this help, we all had a wonderful time and are definatly going back in summer, we all said, we wouldnt have realised what a beautiful place it was if we'd got somewere closer. so enjoy yourself

That's all really helpful Evesmama - we're going at the end of January (when we're expecting it to be dark, cold and wet!), and have never done CP before.

EvesMama · 26/10/2004 21:25

were are you travelling from? we are in mbro and were advised to laeve plenty of time if going in winter in case of snow and bad weather?
chez pierre do a mean egg and sausage breakfast bagette, the pizza place is pricy but lovely and the staff (carly) in american theme resteraunt-hard rock or something were great with dd and niece.
all got a bit of dogdy belly in lakeside inn, but suppose that could happen anywere?
if you can, ask for a refurbished apartment/lodge, someone suggested this a while ago although there may not be any left in jan, do you have discount codes?

roisin · 26/10/2004 21:45

Whereabouts in Mbro are you? My parents live in Great Ayton - we are off there tomorrow actually.

We live in SW Cumbria, so we only have to negotiate off the motorway from Penrith, so it's not too far to Oasis even if the weather is bad.

EvesMama · 26/10/2004 22:01

live just before ormesby bank.
we were gunna go back jan as got some good disc through, but think will leave till summer, save up a bit!!

woodpops · 27/10/2004 08:44

Alibo, do you mind me asking why you've chosen to go to Oasis rather than Center Parcs??

louise1974 · 27/10/2004 17:38

Oasis is center parcs.

JuniperDewdrop · 27/10/2004 17:43

We've stayed at 3 oaks with very elderly grandparents and we managed fine. It may depend on the no. villa though? Like has already been said you won't notice the walk and may find baby sleeps a lot more because of the clean fresh air.
Feel quite as we usually go twice a year but have only been once this year.
My in laws are from the boro, Acklam.
