Hello,

Just wondering if anyone could offer advise? we are flying out to Puerto Rico (Gran Canaria) on Saturday with 2 year old dd - what do you all do for a car seat when on holidays? There is a few of us going up so rather than pay for 3 - 4 cars in the long stay car park airport we're getting a mini bus - not sure what to do re: dd's seat? also with taxis etc.. on holidays - what do you do?

We brought her to Prague with us last year, when she was 11months, but brought our own car to airport - so car seat was'nt a problem but had to have her on my knee with seat belt around us both when in taxis etc... and I hated doing it! didnt feel safe at all, so stuck to taxi just to and from airport - being in city we could just walk everywhere else.

Any tips would be really appreciated! x

you can usually hire one if hiring a car. With regard to taxis I found in Majorca and Minorca they had booster seats but not usually stage 2 seat - is that what she is in?

BarbieLovesKen · 25/10/2007 20:24

yes it is! - oh I didnt realise you could hire one with car!! thank you so much for replying

We've hired with a car with mixed satisfaction tbh. Few taxis would have one unless you prebook. Can't you just take yours ?

you're welcome - btw don't put her on your lap if no car seat, better to put her on own with adult seat belt, next to you, you can put shoulder strap under their arm.

  • think your right, shes more than big enough to sit on her own now.

Lizs, I don't know - would it be treated the same as the pushchair - as a necessity - or luggage? probably would make the best sense... just really awkard

It would go as oversized baggage unless she can sit in it on the plane (does she have her own seat reserved?). Check with airline , many would take it for no extra.

BarbieLovesKen · 25/10/2007 21:02

yes, she has her own seat. Am going to do just that - thanks so much for your help x

I would advise you to take your own if possible, after seeing the really grotty car seats that Sixt had when we were in Rome recently. I do not know if this is typical but I was disgusted by the state of htem and would not have wanted my DCs in them.

They are normally quite expensive too.

We took a booster seat with us on holiday this year. It was probably on worth a tenner, but would have cost us £5 a day to hire one with our car. No problems on the flight - they give you a big placky bag to check it.

I was thinking that!! but didnt want to seem horrible or over the top!...
