UK locked down for Christmas?

Is anyone else wondering how on earth the country will still go ahead with the plans for christmas mixing for five days if the numbers are still going up as quickly as they are now? We are already seeing very high infection rates - and its only the 13th of December. If we continue as we are for another ten days - how is it going to work?

I am actually seriously worried now that Christmas is not going to happen in the way we planned. Perhaps we should have continued the tier 3 across the country for another few weeks to allow for Christmas, but as it stand now we are averaging over 21,000 infections every day, and with over 500 people dying per day. In another ten days surely that is going to multiply, and by Christmas we will be in a bad place, if we go ahead with the 5 day free for all, what happens in the first few weeks of January?

Or do we not care because it is 'christmas'.
I am very worried how the NHS will cope, and I am by nature an anti lockdown supporter, but I fail to see how this will work. The third wave at this point is looking all but certain looking at the numbers...

Most of my friends are taking the three households, as three different households every day - not in total, and have planned for that over the festive period.

London may well go into Tier 3, but Johnson won't impose any lockdown over Christmas. He's so weak that he doesn't want his popularity to take yet another dip before the Brexit shitshow starts to hit in January.

The Christmas relaxation was always a dreadful idea. It will, and was always going to, lead to increased cases and increased deaths.

The majority of people I know have made their own, more sensible, plans and are being much cautious.

My MIL (London and in an area of real concern) is however mixing with 2 households over 2 days and will be with 4 different children at 4 different schools. It's ok though because she'll only go for the day though, not overnight, because staying overnight might not be safe. Hmm. I despair of her and others like her who can't understand risk or the fact that although you can do something, sometimes you really shouldn't.
