Tel Aviv

Covid allowing I will be going to a conference in Tel Aviv next May. It’s Tuesday to Friday and it’s our (big number) wedding anniversary on the Saturday so DH has suggested that he and the DC fly out and we have a long weekend together before coming home together.
I have looked at prices and it’s very reasonable, even for a nice 4 or 5 star Hotel by the beach in Tel Aviv and the DC are young teens.
Has anyone been? We will just eat and chill out and maybe do a bit of tourist stuff, does it sound like a good idea?

I went to visit a friend a few years ago, nice beach, good restaurants, the old town Jaffa is worth a look around - for a long weekend yeah I’d do it, there’s not tonnes to see unless you go further afield, we did trips to the Dead Sea, Jerusalem & Sea of Galilee but for a long weekend you probably wouldn’t want to go too far

I went a couple of years ago and loved it. It's a great city to wander around. And the food is some of the best I've ever eaten.

As well as Old Jaffa mentioned by a PP, we enjoyed the Museum of Jewish People at the University (get a taxi there) which is also quite kid friendly, and the self-guided Bauhaus architecture tour (which is a good opportunity to wander around some nice neighbourhoods - you may or may not love doing this as much as me!).

We also went to Jerusalem for the day, and visited the Holocaust memorial museum. It's a long day unless the long awaited Tel Aviv -Jerusalem train line is finished, but unforgettable.

We haven't been to Tel Aviv yet but been to quite a bit of Israel, I hired a guide ( still have details if you need them) it was about £300 for the day for 6 of us, we had two of the best days ever its a fantastic country, just a few of the places we visited
as well as the usual sites.

Love it! Although if you have the time I'd try to sneak to Jerusalem (it would be rude not to!) .

Tel Aviv is fairly secular so don't worry too much about Shabbat/ Kosher however things do close early on Friday and will be closed on Saturday. (Restaurants will remain open though).

Fantastic place and echo that there’s lots of delicious food! Definitely worth a walk up to Jaffa and heading to Jerusalem for the day if you have time too.

I love Tel Aviv. I went in February and the weather was perfect. I stayed at Lighthouse by Browns which was very close to the beach however Tel Aviv is a very walkable city. Visit the Old Jaffa, the markets (I loved Sarona Market). As someone else pointed out - Monday to Thursday is the best time to visit as a lot of things are closed Friday to Saturday. Be warned that airport security are very thorough so use extra time getting through the airport.
