Where's the warmest place I can go to for half-term - without having immunisations/malaria tabs

I'm so excited! Dh has managed at the last minute to get some time off, and so we're looking to go away for half-term. Me, dh and ds (aged 3 nearly 4)

But, I don't want to have immunisations or take anti-malaria tablets, so I think that means that the Caribbean is out (or am I wrong??), which is a shame as it would be a good time of year to go there.

Where's the warmest (dare I suggest hottest or is too late for that?) place I can go? Ideas needed please - countries / towns / resorts, etc.

Can I really do Morocco and Tunisia without immunisations?

I didn't need anything special for Morocco above and beyond standard immunisations.

My stepsons are going to Tunisia for half-term and haven't had any.

Anna8888 · 16/10/2007 18:31

Go to Essaouira...

totallyfreaky · 16/10/2007 18:32

My mum lives in Lanzarote, she says its faily hot there at the moment.

francagoestohollywood · 16/10/2007 18:50

I don't think you need any immunisation to go to many Caribbean islands.
Madeira and the Canary island should be a safe bet,, as well as Morocco.
What about Crete?

Blandmum · 16/10/2007 18:51

Cyprus is quite nice this time of year.

Not boiling hot, but teeshirt weather

francagoestohollywood · 16/10/2007 18:52

you can do morocco without immunisations, but do bring antibiotics/imodium/ask your gp what's best for small children as it is quite easy to catch diaharrea bugs.

We just came back from Portugal (Algarve) and it was lovely, about 25 degrees, although it did rain for first three days of our two week break.

Last October went to Egypt, guaranteed warm and sunny. Can't remember about immunisations though. It was VERY hot early October (mid 30s)but should be a bit cooler by end Oct.

Our travel co said Canaries are good bet this time of year.

littlerach · 16/10/2007 19:13

My mum's just got bakc from Turkay and it wa shot.

oranges · 16/10/2007 19:16

oooh, can I ask the same question for December? It doesn't have to be baking hot - just mild enough to walk outside without freezing!

Anna8888 · 16/10/2007 19:24

oranges - I went to Sicily for Christmas four years ago - the weather was wonderful (though the days were a bit short).

Syracuse is gorgeous and they have a wonderful night time procession for Santa Lucia just before Christmas. Lots to visit too.

NoNickname · 16/10/2007 19:52

Thanks all for the ideas. Dh is (quite miserably) saying he doesn't want to go to North Africa (such a shame - that Villa Maroc place looks fab Anna8888 - may still try to persuade him with the website when he comes in!), and I have been to Turkey and Portugal before, so we're looking at Greece and the Canaries at the mo.

Oranges - I went to Portugal at New Year and it was quite warm - just needed a jumper in the evenings, but the days were T-shirt weather.

La Réunion
You didn't say anything about budget...

nappiesLaGore · 16/10/2007 21:24

im off to cyprus next week avec les bebes.

am attempting to keep anxiety levels down about remembering what to take, reminding myself its supposed to be a holiday and therefore relaxing (even for me!)

canaries will have best/warmest weather you can get short haul. just need to find the right place, as themiddle of 18-30-land is not my idea of relaxing... plenty of advice on here no doubt! (there are indeed lovely places to be found there)

LIZS · 16/10/2007 21:26

Dubai ?

olala · 16/10/2007 21:27

canaries.
we go there every xmas.
its not all bare boobs and shagging.
(I do everntually put my top back on)
some parts are gorgeous.

handlemecarefully · 16/10/2007 21:29

Dubai (as Lizs suggests) is around 90 degrees currently

NoNickname · 19/10/2007 15:16

Have found something in Madeira! And fingers crossed it will be lovely. I've heard it's a bit of an oldies' place, with no beaches. I don't much like the beach anyway (ds loves the pool, so won't miss out) and I'm sure it will be wonderfully peaceful without the 18-30s crowds.

Thanks all very much for the great advice.

(And AA - La Réunion looked very tempting, but a little bit out of budget!)

Glad you found something to suit.
La Réunion is amazing. Lived there for 10 years; I miss it every single day and wonder all the time what we were thinking of when we left.
Try and get there some day, it's worth it.
Have a good trip!
