..check in a car booster seat free of charge? or will it count as my one checked in piece of luggage?? would it be allowed on as additional hand luggage, as an alternative idea?

anyone had exp of this?

also, would like to know about parking at stansted. is there any point booking in adavance? is there more than one car park to choose from, if so which is easiest with 2 young children.

I'm sure I have checked in a booster seat free of charge but this may have been before they changed all their lugage policies as I remember trying to get them into a suitcase the last time I travelled to Scotland!

Ryanair don't let you do anything free of charge. In fact if they could charge you for breathing air on their planes then they probably would.

Sorry, prob not very helpful, except to bump your question!

Re car parks - there are 3 - short, medium and long. The long-term is by far the cheapest bu a bit of a nightmare a)you have to get kids and luggage through busy car park to bus stop. Remember what letter of the alphabet your bus-stop is otherwise you'll be in serious trouble on your return (biiter experience). Then you catch a sometimes heaving bus to the terminal - probably only 10 mins but feels longer because it's usually so crowded. And if you're running a bit late for check-in you can guarantee that will be the time you have to wait for a bus (they are usually every few minutes).

Re car booster - I don't think it's long before Ryanair will start charging you if you need a wee, so I'd say unlikely . I don't think you can check anything in free of charge anymore, can you? I hate Ryanair with a passion so will stop before I start spewing libellous bile!

I really should have proof-read that - sorry.

We have taken a car seat free on Ryanair before now. But if it's literally just a booster (with no back), then you can usually take it on board for them to sit on. However, you should check with them because if they can find a way to make it more difficult, they will..

The other thing that might be worth doing is online check-in if you can - you get priority boarding that way (it's not families with children first any more, although I think you get on second after the online check-ins).

And I would book parking in advance personally - if you're going for a week or less then you should look into the 'medium term' car park at Stansted, it's nearer the terminal iirc.

thanks folks. just looked at parking. med term is nearly double the price of long term . think we will turn up and see how much time we have to spare- ie we wont pre book.

Make sure you weigh your bags - we had 22 kilos of luggae all i the same bag and thought that would be ok - but you have tohave your allowances in seperate bags - as the allowance is 15k we had to pay for 7 ks!

flowerybeanbag · 15/10/2007 12:51

We paid for DS's car seat as a piece of luggage, and then got told by the check-in desk on the way home, that 'oh didn't you know that car seats go free?'.

Er, no. Email definitely did not say this, explicitly mentioned buggies only.

I'd give them a ring, they don't seem too clear about this stuff if you ask me.

noonar · 15/10/2007 13:31

ok, the website says that they will charge me £5 each way to take it.it only cost £10 to buy! may take a bigger bag and just put it inside- depending on bag's weight.
