Can you recommend toys for 12 month old on a long haul flight to and from Australia?

Aaaargh, am wondering how to entertain this super active little boy. He'll be 11 months when we leave and 12 when we get back. Any advice on small plane friendly entertaining toys would be great (or any other general advice very welcome!)
Thanks

something for him to safely fiddle with! a taggy blanket, a bead thing, you know the ones with the curly wires round that you slide the beads across, small cuddly toys, books, touchy feely books, rattly things, things to post.....

you need a new toy/distraction for each half hour of the flight. can be small things like a balloon, bubbles (if they'll let you take them on..) etc.. bok with flaps to lift, small figures for doing a theatre show on the flap down tray

walkman and story tapes or fav song tapes, mind he doesnt turn the vol. up too high!

oh, nice idea, i might load our ipod up with kids songs and stories. i'll have to see if he'll let me put the earphones in his ears though!

Hi,
I flew to Aus with my dd2 at 13 months - I filled a bag with little toys(some wrapped up in old magazines)and we opened one every so often of the way out. On the way back we just had the bag with the toys and they were mostly takien in and out and spilt all over the floor every half hour, but at least it passed the time.

To get the small toys I bought a bag of pinata toys from Woolies and a box of stuff from yellow moon.

thanks, i hadn't come across yellow moon before, it's great! have bookmarked it for future xmas's too

get him a cheap pair of over the head earphones, they wont bother him so much as in the ear ones

We arrived in Oz yesterday having flown from London with an 8 year old, a 3 year old and a 13 month old. I can tell you don't take much because they don't play with it, just throw it around

I took books, and then just gave her whatever I had to hand - she actually spent about half an hour playing with a paper cup, then more time than you would believe crawling up and down the aisle...

I also sang Wheels on the Bus 36,285 times and Row Your Boat 14,897 times.

Remember you are very limited in what you can take into Australia in the way of food, drink, wood etc.
