Thailand with 15mo - PETRIFIED

Hi,
My boyfriend has booked us and our 15mo ds a 3 week holiday in Thailand in January. We stayed there, on Koh Pha Ngan when i was first up the duff, and had an amazing time, so i was really pleased.
But last night i just remembered we now have small child and am now petrified that he will get sick and the sea will be too choppy for boats to get to Samui etc., etc., and he will die due to a lack of medical attention.
Clearly an exagerration, but you get my point. And i promise you at 3am it felt very real!
Now while i would be totally up for a 5 star hotel on the mainland, DB is very keen to do the £20/night bungalow on remote beach type thing and is not easily pursuaded out of it. Is this a really bad idea?
Does anyone have any advice, or any experience of this? what about food? Mozzies? Unbearable heat... the bloody flight...
Desperate for reassurance!

Firstly don't worry about it!!

The first time I took my babies away somewhere remote I stressed and stressed about lack of medical care, heat, mozzies, funny food etc...but now they are 3 and 6 and have been all over the world..kids are 100% adaptable, so much more than adults..your LO will have a fantastic time. Get all your jabs, pack a decent medical kit in the UK and then top it up with antibiotics etc when you arrive in Thailand. Be organised about where you buy water from and be a bit careful about where you eat and you will all have a wonderful time. (We are backpacking in Egypt in 2 weeks with 2 females and 5 children under 8..I can't wait!!) As for the flight..that will probably be a bit of a nightmare..I always pack hand luggage for the children with lots of snack and favourite toys. Just remember while on the plane how much fun you will have while away and it will all seem worth it!

Have fun :-)

Hi,

Koh samui has excellent medical facilities. You can go back without too much trouble from koh pha ngan.

Last month we met a couple with 20mths old twins in samui. They'd been diving in koh phangan and their kids developped high fever. After 3 day they snapped out of it and went back to samui. Kids remained 3 days in hospital to rehydrate. They received excellent care.

Make sure jabs all up to date and ask travel clinic for additional jabs required.

The only problems mosquitoes and food hygiene/dehydration. take mosquito net and child friendly repellent.
Pack UHT milk and dry foods (such as pot noodles/soup and a few veggie jars) and a mini kettle to sterilize/heat/cook.
There is a huge tesco in samui where you will find EVERYTHING.
only give fruit you can peel yourself.
Bottled water available everywhere.

Enjoy.
