Flights to Malaysia, so confused!

At the end of last year we booked flights with BA to go to Malaysia later this year. Currently you can only claim BA vouchers if you booked after 3 March or are due to travel before 30 September neither of which applies. The FCO says you can go to Malaysia but Malaysia have extended their restrictions so won’t allow you entry and this until the end of 2020 so we can’t go even if we wanted to.

I can’t seem to find anywhere whether this means I should get a refund or not? Do I just have to wait and hope BA extend the date or cancel the flight? I’m happy to have a voucher but it currently says I’m not entitled. I have got insurance that was in place pre-Covid so I’m hoping that will refund me if BA don’t but this scenario doesn’t feel like it’s covered in everything I’ve read?

We had a trip booked this August - all direct - for Thailand and Malaysia - main flight with EVA and internal flights with AirAsia. Same situation FCO said can travel, both countries won't let in (not that we wanted to go anyway with covid). Insurance got out of everything - AirAsia insurance had a pandemic rule, normal insurance had an FCO rule though you could still try. We booked a year previously, took insurance in January.

Fortunatley EVAAir where great and refunded all flights in full around 1 June whether cancelled or not but I think rule is for flights in Europe they cancel they have to refund in full, if they don't cancel they don't have to refund. Normally if entry to a country is banned flights get cancelled. The internal flights with AirAsia if they weren't cancelled you lost the money except for airport tax, if they were cancelled you could get a 2 year credit note (useable if don't go bankrupt).

You shouldn't he allowed to check in for your flight (if you ever got to your departure date).

Airlines are not allowed to send passengers to a country where they don't have the proper documentation or meet the entry requirements.
Obviously as Malaysia is closed to most countries until Dec 31sylt at the earliest I would assume BA would refund or rebook or issue a voucher.

I know my Las Vegas holiday booked with BA holidays was refunded in full back in April without us even requesting it, although I do realise things have changed since April.

I can't wait to get back to KL. So am impatiently waiting fir Malaysia to reopen thier borders.

Have you tried emailing or calling them??
