Just wondering what times is usually best to go on the motorways? I know its usually not such a good idea after 4 or 5, but are there any other times that you are more likely to get stuck in traffic? Except if there are accidents etc.

Middle of the night normally best. Dh sets off after about 10pm if he's going anywhere and finds traffic clearer... ok if there's 2 of you to share the driving plus the kids can sleep in the back of the car so no whinging 'are we there yet?????.....'

you thinking of the alton towers extravaganza TB?

depends what time you want to arrive there really.. but the quietest time is middle of night!! (2/3/4/5 am etc!)

( thread diversion!!!Have u found anywhere to stay yet?)

We're thinking of it as there is only one train to get to alton towers and one coming back as far as i know. im coming from watford so its about 2 and a hour hours by car if things go smoothly. theres a hotel ive seen about half hour drive from alton towers so would need a car to get there. really pricey though, but still looking around. have you found anywhere uni?

travelodges and premierelodge seem reasonable for a family room..

we toyed with the idea of staying with my elderly folks (80+83) in their rather small flat Worcestershire..
dh thinks it would be ok for a night..
But I would rather not!!!
