Anyone else due to fly to Rhodes ?
2 weeks time..... have until this Friday to re book flights and hotel or lose the ££.

Have no travel insurance (just expired with old bank acct and now can't find a policy that would protect us from any Covid stuff anyway)

Work would be a pain in the arse to wfh for 2 weeks If air bridge happens but it's doable at a push.

Don't know what to do!

There’s no precedent for him to follow Sturgeon here though.

In all other examples when Sturgeon has announced first, its been where the country is over the 20.0 cumulative figure. Like Switzerland. She announced Scotland quarantine before Boris did, but in that example Switzerland were already well over the 20.0 limit.

At moment Greece is well below that. It would be unexpected I think for him to follow suit when cases are so low. He might do something similar to Wales and quarantine certain islands?

I’ve done so much research to try and second guess their decision but I guess we will just have to wait. I’d feel more concerned if this had happened before with other countries below 20.0 but in the UK no country has been put on quarantine list when their cumulative rate is below 20.0!

MrDarcysMa · 01/09/2020 22:56

Ah thanks @Palmtree76 I'm not on Twitter x

Anyone understand why Sturgeon has done this? The rates are so low. We are Scots who were really looking forward to a break in a October in the mountains of the Peloponnese. If it was over twenty I would understand, or even eighteen.

Dp has really bad MH at the moment and while I get no one is entitled to a holiday am a bit gutted as I don't understand the decision.

Worldgonecrazy · 02/09/2020 11:46

General consensus in our household is Sturgeon did it to bury other headlines.

Palmtree76 · 02/09/2020 12:04

It makes no sense. The welsh decision makes sense. They had the influx via the Tui flight to Cardiff. But Scotland had NO reason to do this.

@theotherfossilsister could you still go and quarantine on arrival home? I sympathise with you and your DP. I’ve been waiting for this holiday since I booked in July. I’m desperate for a break and actually instead of looking forward to the break I’m panicking now I won’t be able to go. Defeating the object of a holiday! I should be winding down but instead I’m obsessively checking every news media and outlet!

I can quarantine when I’m home but scared BA will just cancel packages.

@theotherfossilsister You can get insurance through Stay Sure which also covers pre existing health conditions and they have an FCO add on which covers you for everything aside from Covid. The Greek Government will however cover Covid related health issues so could you still go?
WhiteChocTwix · 02/09/2020 20:38

Battle Face insurance is worth looking at, it covers you for illness due to Covid and other non Covid cover. We're in Santorini atm. There were some Covidiots on our flight; we were in Club Europe, spent the preceding 2 weeks at home isolating to avoid the possibility of a positive test on arrival (DH works from home, no sprogs, got online shopping). The more drunk they got, the more they left their masks off, shouting and ranting. The BA crew eventually said they'd drunk them out of champagne, white wine, vodka etc. I thought BA should have put their foot down more and told them to put their bloody masks back on and shut up. They started clapping and screaming as we landed "woooh first holiday after lock down!!" 🙄Pushing 60 and bloody obnoxious with it. Also ought to read the news and realise we're still travelling in the midst of a global pandemic so consideration to that wouldn't have gone a miss. 🤨

Palmtree76 · 02/09/2020 20:51

Cases 233 today: brings cumulative rate DOWN from yesterday to 13.8, it was 14.4 yesterday.

To give it context the cumulative rate for Greece is currently LOWER than the UK’s (14.9)!!!

Cheeseandlobster · 02/09/2020 21:56

Battleface don't cover pre existing health conditions though

MrsSmith2020 · 03/09/2020 17:51

Anyone else seeing the BBC updates?
Wales just made their first list - breaking away from UK quarantine rules... they have Just added to Welsh list 6 x Greek island for quarantine- Crete amongst them.

Additionally 8 yoofs tested positive after landing at Luton from Crete on 25/08 after a 10 day holiday

It's going on the UK list isn't it? 😭

Palmtree76 · 03/09/2020 19:22

@MrsSmith2020 they already announced it’s not!

Grant Schapps confirmed at 5pm today no new countries were being added to list.

MrsSmith2020 · 03/09/2020 21:57

@Palmtree76 sorry I should have clarified, I was talking about next weeks list, I had seen the tweets about today. Fingers crossed it stays off the lists for next few weeks and the numbers come down. 🤞🏼

(We fly next weekend)

bluejelly · 03/09/2020 22:16

Is anyone worried about taking it to Greece and giving Covid to Greek people? Particularly those on islands without access to world class hospitals.
(That's why I holidayed in the UK this year, much as I love Greece)

Palmtree76 · 03/09/2020 22:41

@bluejelly that’s a really good point. I’ve actually chosen to self-isolate for 2 weeks before I go. Not hard anyway as I’m not really going out or socialising but I wanted to be confident I was clear on arrival and not to spread anything to the staff at the resort I’m staying in.

bluejelly · 03/09/2020 22:56

That sounds a good idea @Palmtree76 👍

WhiteChocTwix · 04/09/2020 03:40

We also did the same as @palmtree76 and self isolated for 2 weeks before coming out here 👍 probably will keep ourselves fairly to ourselves when we get back as well. I've times any appointments like the dentist for example for 2 weeks after we get home.

Palmtree76 · 04/09/2020 07:13

I mean it’s a slightly selfish move too given I don’t want to turn up at airport and be told for any reason I’ve caught it and can’t go on holiday, but also it’s just a way of life now isn’t it! I’m not going out clubbing, can’t remember the last time I went into a supermarket or clothes shop. Avoid crowds or large gatherings etc!

WhiteChocTwix · 04/09/2020 10:44

Hope you have a great holiday @Palmtree76 the weather is absolutely glorious! I agree, would also have been gutted to test positive and not be able to enjoy my break as planned.

Palmtree76 · 04/09/2020 11:11

Thank you! Just over a ten days now and I can’t wait! Hoping all stays stable till then.

For anyone else interested yesterday Greece reported 241 new cases bringing the cumulative per 100000 people down to 13.7 from 13.8 the day before.

MrsSmith2020 · 04/09/2020 15:36

Those case numbers look promising @Palmtree76 thanks for updating

MrsSmith2020 · 04/09/2020 15:39

@bluejelly it's such a valid point!

We are isolating as much as possible. Both fully working from home (only the walking of our dogs once a day is the exercise we are permitting, we do this in the rain or very very early so as to avoid other people and dogs)
we are also doing click and collect from supermarkets which a relative has been collecting or home deliveries where we get slots.

Otherwise people are dropping food off to us.

MrsSmith2020 · 07/09/2020 15:59

Oh well- looks like island visitors will be quarantining!!

MrsSmith2020 · 07/09/2020 17:18

An update from us, apparently as it's now against the FCO to travel to Crete and because I am pregnant my
Travel agent got in contact and they will be cancelling our reservation.

MrDarcysMa · 08/09/2020 21:47

Oh no @MrsSmith2020 so sorry to hear that. My colleague just had her Crete holiday cancelled too.
I'm a bit frustrated we cancelled Rhodes by choice now but we had to make a decision and we've decided to save up extra for next year so we can really live it up!
