We fancy a nice weekend in Paris - can anyone recommend a really nice hotel that is toddler-friendly?

What do you need for it to be toddler friendly to you? Travel cot? Listening service? High chairs?

tbh Paris was Not Good for us when DS was a toddler. Parisians expect children to be quiet, sedentary and unmessy at all times. We got terrible looks from ladies-who-lunch and snooty waiters when DS moved around on the bench seating where we sat, in a very non-wild no-shoes-on-the-seats sort of way. WE went to some parks and open spaces, where DS did not understand the strict 'not in the grass' rule in French parks and we had to keep dragging him off. He crawled onto a patch of grass and people lined up to stare contemptuously at us. We went to a small crowded playground area in the Tuileries to let DS let off steam and a child innocently hurled a conker which hit my leg. The mother dragged him to stand in front of me and kept slapping his leg to force him to say sorry - because other mothers had looked at her as if she was raising a psychopath when he did it. All the mothers and children looked 100% immaculate at all times...I just hated it!

I promise that I have never allowed DS to run riot in cafes etc and he is not a wild loud child...we just didn't find it relaxing at all.

I agree with post, Paris is really not a place to take kids, not child friendly at all.

And if you do have to get the train/metro for any reason it's hell! Hardly any lifts anywhere. Had to carry ds and the pram up so many flights of stairs!!

Baffy · 04/10/2007 15:20

Having said all of that though I do love Paris!

< Hoping someone comes along soon with positive advice for you >

I was feeling a bit guilty about my post - very subjective.....I love pris too, and am loging to go now DS is older and will appreciate the Eiffel Tower, a gallery, French food etc.

Um, ok! Thanks for your tips, will have a think and may stay in the UK! Have been to Paris many times and love it.

I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Get a nice hotel with a pool and nice restaurant so that if all else fails you can have a nice swim and a glass of wine in the hotel.

Sorry, i love Paris as well, but it is honestly hell on earth with a toddler.
Dublin or Belfast are great.

bunyanvillas · 04/10/2007 15:41

No worries, you are most probably right. Might shelve it for a few years. Am from N Ireland so yes can concur that Belfast (and Dub) are great!! Thanks for your honest advice, it's appreciated

DD was seven when we first took her and it was fab. Couldn't actually get her out of the Musee D'Orsay. We stayed at hotel Le Senat, and I posted a review here at the time - but I'm not sure about toddlers....

We did a day out in Paris with the kids and had a great time.
We sort of followed this day out Paris with Small Children which details a two day itinerary. We did parts of all of it. At the time DS was 2.7 and DD 6. (so not a toddler).

We stayed for a week out near Disneyland Paris, had 2 days in Disney, one day in Paris, the others touring the area.
