Spanish teachers/speakers - where in Spain for "school Spanish"

We are planning on having our summer holiday in Spain next year to encourage my son's enthusiasm for Spanish prior to his GCSEs. We often go to the Costa del Sol at Easter, so are looking for somewhere different. Not a Spanish speaker myself (yet!), but aware that there are certain parts of Spain where they speak Catalan and it might not be very helpful to him if it's very different to "school Spanish". Can anyone tell which areas to avoid, from a language perspective, or any recommendations for good places to go (with a mix of cities and chill-out-by-the-pool opportunities?) We'll be looking at Eurocamp/Canvas type holidays, but also happy to look at other self-catering. Thanks.

believe catalan is balaerics and costa dorada/ barcelona areas. On saying that we visited costa dorada area last year and were able to use our school spanish fine. It might be like wales, they have their own language but still need to know english.

Thanks both. I had been thinking about Barcelona, but a colleague pointed out that it wouldn't benefit my child's Spanish! Quite fancy Calpe or Denia. Can anyone comment on language there and whether either good places for family holiday (DCs will be 10 and 15 next summer)
