Have you been lately or would you go to Dubai

Yes I know about quarantine on return (2weeks currently I think)
Negative test must be done 96 hours before travel and further test maybe done at airport

Just wondered if anyone has been recently? Or lives there and can tell me what current restrictions are like?
Or are there any additional rules I've missed

We would be in an AI hotel for 5 days, won't be going anywhere else

Have you checked your insurance as you are travelling against FCO advice?

terracottapot · 31/07/2020 18:47

Why do people go to Dubai? I must be missing something here.

MozzchopsThirty · 31/07/2020 18:51

🙄 oh there's always one on a Dubai thread, why click if you're just going to be a dick

The next will be 'oh I wouldn't go based on their appalling human rights record'

Anyway back to the question, thanks to the useful post, we were gonna travel without probably

I'm not being a dick, I'm asking a genuine question. I've never been and I don't know anyone who's been either.

AgentProvocateur · 31/07/2020 18:58

Hi, OP. I live here and it’s very much open to Tourism. If you fly with Emirates and you end up with Covid, they’ll pay your medical bills. As you know, you need a test and a certificate (not a result on your phone - an actual certificate) before you come.

Masks are mandatory everywhere here. You can take them off when you’re at the table/in the pool, but back on to go to the loo etc.

Nightclubs aren’t open again, but everything else is. It feels well organised and safe, everywhere I’ve been.

ineedaholidaynow · 31/07/2020 18:58

Do you mean you are going to travel without insurance?

GreyBow · 31/07/2020 19:00

You have to show travel insurance saying you are covered for Covid 19 on entry.
There's a few companies that will insure you for that still. You will need to show it. You won't be allowed in without.

Test has to be private from tomorrow, not NHS, and it's £120 per person with a few days waiting list. You have to pay first and THEN book the test.

Other than that, it's pretty safe there. Safer than the U.K. anyway.

Haha people love slagging off Dubai because they just picture posers and sand but if people just opened their tiny minds a bit they would see it's actually a bloody amazing place. I make sure i have a good few days there on the way to every destination that I go to where Dubai is a stop!

Anyhoo, i know that my friends there are currently eating out and at pools etc like normal (obvs distancing being followed) but their history of Covid is ALOT better than ours. So you'll feel chilled I think. Only thing is if emirates stop flying again, like if it all goes to cock in the world when you're over there again then could he stuck

MozzchopsThirty · 31/07/2020 19:04

Ok thanks for the info, didn't know we had to have proof of insurance on arrival

I wonder if there are places that will just insure for health?

We'll be flying BA, for air miles, but could go emirates

@terracottapot

Why do people go to Dubai? I must be missing something here.
This does not say 'ooh I'd love to know more about Dubai, I'll ask people I know who've been'

terracottapot · 31/07/2020 19:07

@Wecandothis99 I'm not slagging anything off. I'm asking what attracts people to go on holiday there, because I don't know anyone who has ever been, so I thought I'd ask.

MozzchopsThirty · 31/07/2020 19:08

@AgentProvocateur excellent!!! I'd rather fly with emirates than BA anyway
I'm sure emirates do American Express air miles

OP posts:
terracottapot · 31/07/2020 19:09

The 'I must be missing something here' is because for me personally, I tend to prefer mountain scenery and walking holidays.

We wanted to go somewhere nice in Torquay but at £250 per nite we thought that's crazy.
Looked at Dubai and could get a good all inclusive for £800 for 2 of us for 5 nights.

I wouldn't choose Dubai over some other places I've been but we've both worked through lockdown (I'm a nurse) and we want some sun, luxury and plenty of relaxing

OP posts:
ineedaholidaynow · 31/07/2020 19:18

I would still check with that insurance whether you are still covered if you are travelling against FCO advice.

nicky7654 · 31/07/2020 19:19

I have been but a few years ago. Felt very sorry for the waiters etc as they have their passport taken away so they can't leave, then they haven't been paid for years. So they are prisoners. I didn't know this before I went. Dubai men dont work they use foreign workers only. And I never saw any Arab women either cause they were not allowed out. I wouldn't go back as far better countries to visit with more personality.

Redwinestillfine · 31/07/2020 19:19

It's a long way to go for 5 days not leaving the hotel.

bilbodog · 31/07/2020 19:20

It will be extremely hot in dubai at this time of year!

Lindy2 · 31/07/2020 19:21

No. But then I wouldn't be going anywhere abroad in the middle of e very volatile global pandemic.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 31/07/2020 19:26

"I wouldn't go based on their appalling human rights record" - is that not a valid reason for not visiting a place now?

AgentProvocateur · 31/07/2020 19:32

@nicky7654, I work with Emirati men and women. I can assure you that they do work and are allowed out.

Potatobug · 31/07/2020 19:35

If you go to Dubai now you will be melting away in 50 degrees sweltering heat. Not a smart move. Yes there is AC everywhere but you don’t want to be indoors all the time do you?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 31/07/2020 19:44

Well it's cheap so who cares right?
