Trip to Corfu on my own

DH and I have agreed that when the confusion about travel is sorted and if we are allowed to travel that we can both have a trip away with friends for a long weekend. I'd love to go to Corfu, went to an adults only hotel 10 minutes from the airport a few years back with best friend but she can't come this year as she's a 6th form teacher and due back mid August. I'm thinking to go the week after school restarts as DH can work from home. I know the hotel and the area. It's a small hotel so can't be crowded. Would you do it?

Ps the last picture which is at the old harbour, you walk up a slight hill after going through the city 'gates' and then see it and I genuinely have never understood the phrase 'take my breath away' until then: I just stood and stared at the view for what felt like ages and it genuinely soothed me.

So glad you are having a good time. Pictures look amazing. I don't think there's anything odd about it at all!

Fabulous, I just love Corfu town!

Fabulous! I’m not at all jealous. If they point you to a small table then say I would prefer that one thanks.

I have also done a solo trip and it was one of my best holidays ever. I found one restaurant told me I needed to arrive before 8pm as a single diner. I can kind of see both sides - every table was for 4 people so just one person would mean a lot less profit. And to be fair I was made to feel very welcome while I was there.

For anyone else who is considering going on a lone holiday - I would say go for it. You can literally do what you want when you want and it's fabulous

You're so brave. I wimped out of my solo Lisbon trip - meant to have been going on Saturday. Originally I'd planned to go alone, but then friend decided to come, then decided against it at the last minute because of the cases increasing and risk of quarantine.
I was at the airport and it was not at all like the airport usually is, then friend messaged to say she got her hotel refunded and that was enough to stop me going - I was actually just about to enter the boarding chute when I decided not to go.
Am disappointed with myself, but maybe I'll try again when covid is over.

Oh no! To have gotten so far as well @rookiemere!

Still, Lisbon isn’t going anywhere

rookiemere · 01/09/2020 15:20

@SJaneS48 thank you Smile.

I wish I had just stuck to my guns and insisted I was going alone as I think it was the change of thinking there would be two of us changing to just one that made it hard. I think the extra covid complications were what stopped me and I've not lost my gung ho spirit though.

It’s been a really unusual year and we wimped out of going abroad too (although I’m supportive of others going & playing by the rules). First time in 35 years I’ve not been abroad and this years ‘glamorous’ highlights have been flying to Glasgow for a friends birthday and three days in a Travelodge in the West Midlands!

But as above, let’s hope 2021 brings better things!

I travelled alone for many years and would always revisit restaurants that were favourable to lone travellers.

Take a book, eat three courses and cocktails if they give decent service and a window seat for people-watching!

I haven't been away for years as have always been too chicken to go on my own. I suppose it is the meal times that I'm worried about.

I think I'd find self-catering accommodation easier on my own but it would probably work out more expensive.

I am glad you are having a lovely time.

@Sally99 Just do it :)
