Child passport renewal angst
goldendog · 04/07/2020 12:32
Until the bringing of last week the passport office was saying you should only apply in an emergency. The rules have now changed so I applied online 9 days ago for DC’s renewal. The old passport was received at the passport office 7 days ago (signed for) but it’s not yet been scanned on the system.
We have been offered a week in a friend’s house in France at the beginning of August. I’m happy to go via the Eurotunnel. But will the passport be here in time?! Has anyone else renewed recently? I’m feeling stressed that it won’t arrive in 4 weeks!

Great update @goldendog. Sounds positive! Hope it arrives soon. Mine was delivered two days ago but still not messaged that is has been received. Drumming fingers anxiously......

Just got a text today saying our passport has now been received so the wait is on - feeling a bit more positive now but it will be a bit of a tense two weeks.

One of DTDs passports now on the way to us. Took 8 days from delivery of old passport to show as received another 2 days to start processing and another 10 days to be approved, 24hrs to be printed and sent out. (Peterborough).
Had already tweeted and DM via twitter and other DTD's application still showing processing at different passport office (Durham) where it took an extra 4 days to start processing...
Reply to DM today to ask when travel was booked. Traveled online forums to find they seem to be giving priority if booked prior to lockdown. The wait continues.

Apparently there is a 400,000 backlog. Mine expires in October and we aren't due to go abroad until December so vaguely hoping that if I sent in September, like they suggest, that'll be OK.

My passport has been received 2 days ago, so I'm feeling a bit more relaxed but I had a lot of troubles with them accepting my picture. I got it from the local photo store twice and they declined it twice somehow, so then I had to use a passport photo software to make the photo and to get my passport back on time. I was really worried when they didn't decline the photo but sent no confirmation message either! Fortunately, they seem to put it into work now. Ugh, I wish they'd sent more updates!

Finally got both passports. One took 27 days from application to receipt and the other 31 days. I had DM'd the passport office via twitter asking my travel date to be taken into consideration and when one had been approved and not the other wrote to my MP who wrote to the Home Office. No idea whether these things worked or whether they would have been processed in the same time regardless, but very relieved to have them now and looking forward to our holiday. Good luck those who are still waiting.
