Would you consider a trip to New York this Christmas? And if so, has anyone got any good accommodation recommendations!

Just me and DD 10 going. X

I wouldn't but I wish I could :-( I'm from new York, all of my family are there and we normally go for 4 weeks over summer. I was half thinking Christmas instead now but I just dont see it being safe or easy

If you're looking for a Christmas break I would really recommend Bruges. I wasn't expecting to
Love it as much as I did and the Christmas markets are amazing

The Christmas markets

In all seriousness - is that going to really appeal to your 10 year old? I mean genuinely beyond the first couple of hours of wandering around?

autumnredhead · 04/07/2020 17:54

@Atadaddicted - just fancied a festive trip away!

For you or your DD?!

If she was 15, perhaps so. But at 10... a Christmas market is going to wear thin after a couple of hours.

Lapland is amazing at Christmas but don't know if that's viable this year either, when we went we booked in November for December. Finland is on the exempt. It's lovely with the snow, husky rides, reindeer rides, snowmobiles etc, go into Artic circle, our trip had a meal with fireworks as well and hotel had a pool/spa.

@Atadaddicted - I thought she might enjoy it to be fair. It was a trip for both of us.

Finland is indeed on the quarantine free list but as it stands I believe we are on their red list so we won’t be allowed in in the first place.

Frazzled2207 · 05/07/2020 11:13

This suggests you can’t visit Finland right now but that is likely to change soon

Yes you have to be really careful at the moment to check if UK lets you go there, country lets you in, do you have to quarantine here, do you have to quarantine there. It's a bit of a minefield at the moment. We've booked Thailand and Malaysia this summer though cancelling anyway but neither are on air bridge list so you quarantine here, both are on FCO list saying you can travel there, FCO had failed to put before Malaysia wasn't allowing you in so I messaged them and they added that but you aren't allowed in to 31 August there. Thailand its unlikely you will be allowed in but tbd. And then there's last minute local lockdowns and lack of insurance cover to navigate. Thailand is 14 day quarantine in a government facility if you can get let in which atm you can't. All the FCO advice means in reality is insurance doesn't have to pay out.

I wouldn't be booking anything far ahead as if there's a second winter wave it could shut down again and insurance may well not be covering.
