Hi just looking for some opinions! We were due to go to Cala D'or in July with our 8 & 6 year old. We have requested flight voucher from easyJet and hotel have agreed to refund. BUT we are very tempted to go in August instead. Would you go?? Hotel have said pool will be open providing no more changes. Decisions decisions!!!

No I wouldn't. I think its all too fragile at the moment. Imagine getting there to find a lockdown as soon as you arrive. I think the only way I would consider it was if I could book to travel the following day. That way you can base the decision on the figures in both Spain and the UK imminent to travel

Roselilly36 · 24/06/2020 13:36

I wouldn’t for a number of reasons, travelling against FO advice causes travel insurance to be invalid, travelling through the airport & on plane wearing a mask will be uncomfortable. Once in resort, things won’t be typical of a Spanish holiday, a lot of restaurants & bars still aren’t opening as they are receiving state assistance and the lack of tourists at the moment doesn’t make it financially viable to re open at the moment. Currently quarantine required on return. We have decided to forget holidays this year, but thankfully we are having excellent weather here. Your choice OP, if you think it will benefit you, go for it, but just be aware, or alert as gov would say 😂

kellihay · 24/06/2020 13:37

Provided that you don't have to quarantine when arriving (I don't care about when back in UK) I would 100%... I actually plan on going abroad in August to whichever country allows!

diked · 24/06/2020 14:01

i would if travel advices changes - which most likely it will bu then.

AWiseWomanOnceSaidFuckThisShit · 24/06/2020 14:10

I am booked for Majorca for 5 days in October, I'll only go if the FCO amend their travel advice and then I will try and buy different travel insurance to include covid... if that's even possible?!

happinessischocolate · 24/06/2020 14:15

I would imagine anything booked now would be non refundable as everyone knows the risks.

If you're willing you risk the money and have the stress of wondering for the next month whether the holiday will happen then go for it.

Why not go on holiday in the uk? Holiday parks are opening up and would hopefully have pools and evening entertainment available again by August.

HowFastIsTooFast · 24/06/2020 14:41

I booked last night to go to Palmanova on the 26th July! I can cancel the whole trip up to a few days before but I couldn't resist having something to look forward to (and I work in the industry, so I can't be encouraging people to start thinking about travel again if I'm not prepared to do it myself!)

HowFastIsTooFast · 24/06/2020 14:44

Ps.. I have colleagues in Majorca; they opened up to German tourists a couple of weeks ago and aside from distancing and obligatory masks where you can't distance things are fast getting back to 'normal'. All the hotels I work with have sent us their new government safety guidelines and they're going to be audited regularly and at random to make sure they're sticking to them.

Aposterhasnoname · 24/06/2020 14:51

As soon as the travel advice changes, and the air bridges are in place, I’ll be booking for the end of August. I’m that confident it will happen that I’ve started packing.

Paperyfish · 24/06/2020 14:54

I booked for start of august in Mallorca at end of last year. If it’s open we’re going. I’m not sure we’d get our money back if we didn’t and I’m looking forward to it anyway. We booked an all inclusive hotel so as long as hotel and beach are operational we’ll enjoy it.

Abkbjbjb · 24/06/2020 16:49

@HowFastIsTooFast do you mind me asking who you booked with that allows cancellation? The holiday we saw is with Jet2 holidays, I need to ring them to see what their cancellation policy is

Thank you everyone for your replies 🤗. We are in NI and weather nowhere near as good as rest of uk at the moment unfortunately! We had talked about flying down to south of England to get better weather but then thought perhaps these areas eg. Dorset etc might in fact be busier & riskier, thought if we were prepared to get on plane to south of England then we may as well fly an extra hour and be in Majorca! So hard to know what to do for the best 😥

@Abkbjbjb I’m lucky in that I work for a holiday operator and have been able to book through work fully flexibly (perk of the job, there haven’t been many of those recently!). A lot more operators are offering totally flexible booking now though, if you have a hunt around 👍🏻

Abkbjbjb · 24/06/2020 18:49

Looks like the decision has been taken out of our hands.... just went on to jet2 holidays to check the holiday again for any small print and Jet2 have pulled any Belfast flights to Majorca up until 27th August?!!! Glad we didn't book it last night!!

I believe that Staysure and trailfinders are offering Coronavirus cover in their insurance policies now subject to the travel ban being lifted. We have our insurance with stay sure for a pre COVID booked holiday and it now states that we will get emergency medical cover for coronavirus whilst on holiday, but no cancellation cover I believe. Not sure what the trail finder one offers as not booked with them.

May be worth exploring and checking the cover levels. Some peace of mind perhaps at least
