Taking dog to France

Hello . Does anyone have any experience of taking your pet dog on holiday to a euro camp style accommodation?
I am aware we will need a pet passport but also looking for advice regarding the drive and any recommendations for a dog friendly site .

make sure they are microchipped, and have a collar with a name tag and contact phone number on (if you don't have that already), so if they are lost they can easily be reunited with them. Bring vaccination certificates with you.
have a look at this campsite, it is dog friendly

this site has lots of tips

And make sure you have a harness/dog seat belt, or dog boot guard like this.

We've taken ddog many many times, but his passport expired for the Brexit shit show resolved the situation around the pet travel scheme and then obviously CV.

It takes a bit of time to sort it out, they need a rabies jab and then a blood test a month later. There was talk of this period being extended to six months.

Before you come back you need to go to the vet for a worming treatment.

We always take the tunnel and there is a designated pet lane for returning, you take the dog in and their chip is scanned and passport checked.

Are you camping in a tent? Depending how far south you go it can be very very hot. We have a mobile home so leave DDog in the a/c when it's too hot.

Dogs are allowed pretty much everywhere in France, restaurants etc.

Hi .

Thanks for the replies.

Looking at a caravan as a tent would be too hot for us anyway.

Glad to hear most restaurants accept dogs .

Asked my local vet for pet passport and it's £150 with all the treatments .

Hopefully the travel restrictions will lift soon .

Norri check that £150 includes the rabies blood test. Our dog is having his blood test in 30 days time and it’s £116 just for that.

norri · 25/06/2020 19:10

Really ? they said it did ?
Just been quoted a cheaper price of £85 too .

We paid €150 in Spain for his blood test so I thought £116 was right.

There is the rabies vaccine first then 30 days later a rabies blood test (because of Brexit). Before Brexit you didn’t need the blood test but it’s best to have now because who knows what France etc may do. And there is no way my dog is going in quarantine in Spanish kennels.

Also French restaurants love dogs. We even had our dog allowed in a 5 star fish restaurant. They even fed him!!

Is quarantine a requirement usually without test ?

We are taking our dog (brought her for the first time last year and as a pp said the French are v doggy friendly and we had no problems taking her into restaurants etc!). You do need to allow enough time to get the rabies titration test back before you go so start the process well in advance. Eurotunnel doggy reception is well set up and process very smooth to go through - there's also a dog exercise area to stretch the legs in before the tunnel. I'd suggest getting a usb powered fan for the car boot if the weather is hot when you are going - was 45C when we went last year but it kept her lovely and cool in the car..

Norri because of Brexit no one knows what will happen to Brit animals travelling abroad atm. We just don’t want to be in the position of not being able to travel without our dog which is why we’ve gone for the belt and braces approach.
