Help want to take my son abroad

Hi ladies,

Hope you can help. I want to take my son abroad. He'll be 7 months old by then. What's the trick with sterilising bottles?

My son has always got his hands in his mouth anyway & his teats are always double checked by both me and his father before we sterilise them. What is the harm in going outside of the 12 hour path to sterilise them?

Before I get the "bad mother" card played - I always sterilise his bottles and use them within time I just think he's forever got his hands in his mouth anyway so would an extra couple hours after the 12 hour steriliser be a major issue?

Thank you in advance for your advice! Also any advice on taking a 7 month old on holiday is appreciated 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I didn’t think bottles needed sterilising after dc was 6 months old.
If you need milk for the flight you can order in Boots ahead of the journey. Just order online to the airport of choice. It you’re packing powdered milk then pack that. Boil water at the other end using a kettle.
Depends where you’re off to really. I travelled from Oz to the UK with dds 3 and 1 on my own.

Give them a rinse with boiling water if you are worried but you don't need to sterilise at that age.

With a 6MO old or older on holiday I personally don’t bother sterilising. I do a hot wash in the hotel sink, take washing up liquid and a brush, and use ready made formula, mostly for ease but also because it’s sterile so it’s less of a worry with the bottles. I always chuck enough cartons in my checked suitcase for the time we are away, in my experience it’s much easier than having to faff with picking them up at boots then carry them through the airport but whatever works for you! You’ll be fine, did loads of travel with mine in the first year including long haul. My advice is to make sure in your hand luggage that you pack extra diapers and formula in case of delays and changes of clothes for everyone including you in case of puking- I was deplaned naked under a coat but hey, at least it was winter so I had the coat!

If you wanted to sterilise then a Tupperware with Milton tablets is what we did.

I think that you have bigger issues to worry about like the Corona virus. Check the quarantine rules & rules wearing face masks on public transport

Passports
Travel insurance
Currency & access to emergency money

That's from a frequent traveler

I knew somebody was going to pipe up about coronavirus🙄

Thanks for the advice ladies!!

And as for the coronavirus restrictions please don't think I would ever be careless enough to not look into restrictions etc. I would be taking my son to visit my auntie. So accept for travelling which would either be by car or by plane - depending on what's safer I wouldn't be staying anywhere other then her house.

I had a baby during lockdown - I am very aware of what's going on.
