Are you staying in the city centre?

I'm going to dublin on saturday.
Eating at the 'bang cafe' which is fabulous.
You have to go to brown thomas to shop.

VeronicaMars · 22/09/2007 13:03

There's a really nice place on Dawson st called Milano's. Very reasonable and the food is really good. It's only around the corner from Grafton st which is great for shopping.
Kilmainham jail is an interesting tour to do, it's where they filmed part of In the Name of the Father.

We went to dublin last year, no kids, to celebrate our 10th anniversary our had a fantastic meal at Shananans on the Green - on St. Stephens street / square. Its much more than a steak house - the meal was one of the best I've ever tasted - my husband wants to go back just for that!! You should make a reservation although we just turned up early evening and got lucky. Have a fab time

debbiewebweb · 22/09/2007 13:29

Shanahans

here (if link works)

skerriesmum · 22/09/2007 13:37

Avoca is a lovely shop too on Suffolk Street, just off Grafton. Huge place with gorgeous blankets, clothes, housewares, and fab cafe for lunch upstairs.
If you like art, the National Gallery is excellent, and free.
Have fun! Dublin is great, especially without kids!

Tamdin · 22/09/2007 13:43

oh yes avoca is lovely

we went somewhere fab on exchequer street a few times. Quite a trendy little cafe but fab service, fab food and fab atmosphere. Cant remember the name you'd have to look for it. There is the most amazing chinese near here too, you go to the top of Exchequer Street then turn left and its the first place on the left IIRC, you feel like youre sitting in someones living room, but the food is amazing

Also nice little day place to eat down the same street called Munchies, do lush sarnies and little side dishes for a bite to eat lunchtime.

mosschops30 · 26/09/2007 16:33

Just remembered its called the Boulevard Cafe. No idea what the chinese is called though

Lucky you! went there on a girlie weekend about 2 years ago, couldn't believe I was going to bed and it was still daylight!

"www.turkshead.ie/" good bar / nightclub, think you can eat there, but I only went to drink and dance, went on a saturday night and they played a lot of 70s and 80s if you like that kind of music - which I do

Went to Eddie Irvine's bar - very trendy www.cocoon.ie/

Will let you know if I think of any more.

Sazisi · 26/09/2007 16:54

I live in Dublin!

There's a fairly new place on Exchequer street called Fallon&Byrne, it's a gourmet shop/cafe on the ground floor, but upstairs is an excellent restaurant (I've been once but it's my new favourite restaurant ) and downstairs in the basement is a lovely winebar where you can drink perfectly chilled Prosecco..aaah!

If you like Japanese-type food you have to try Yamamori on Georges Street..tempura to die for, and amazing tofu steak

If you want to dance to Indie after the pubs close, Whelans on Camden Street is probably the best place to do that

We went for my birthday and had a fab time. I went for a touristy Musical pub crawl and had a blast! (I am into trad music though)
TBH, we very much enjoyed just mooching round soaking up the alcohol atmosphere. It really did rain quite a lot But a ride on one of the tourist buses is pretty cheap and a really good way of orientating yourself.
The book of Kells at Trinity College is supposed to be a must-see, but we took one look at the queue (in the puring rain) and decided against it...

mosschops30 · 26/09/2007 17:22

The Oliver St John Gogartys is a great place for some traditional irish music (upstairs)in the evenings where people just pitch up and play. ditto the Arlington Hotel although this is a bit touristy.

Dont forget to drik Guiness even if you hate it here (i do cant touch the stuff) its a whole different thing in Ireland, I can drink pints of the stuff

filthymindedvixen · 26/09/2007 17:26

oh yes Mosschops, we went there. And the food is nice (if you like hearty, stick to your ribs stuff)
