Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh

Went today with the girls and have to say I was a bit disappointed. Cost us £42 to get in - me, dh and the four girls which was a bit of a shock. Got 'escorted' around the place and were out within 2 hours. Thought there would be more interactive activities for the children. Was a shame we couldn't have spent more time there. Also, personally as a believer in creation, was rather annoyed that half the exhibitions talked about evolution as a fact rather than a theory. That being said, the girls did enjoy aspects of it - the rainforest and the dome in particular.

However, as we found we had plenty of time left we went onto the National Museum and the girls absolutely LOVED it! dh was also very impressed as it was free

So for a good day out in Edinburgh I would say, save your pennies and visit the museum.

Good idea about writing to them. I think I'll do that.

The girls all commented about how corny the guides were I think they may work on commission per corny gag... poor things. They aim to please but seem to fall short of the mark.

I popped my head into the soft play area but the girls were a bit too old for it which was a shame.

It's a science place - why should they put up a load of stuff about religion? Isn't that what you would expect of a scientific centre that deals with evolution?

gibberish · 21/09/2007 00:19

I don't mind them talking about evolution. It's that they put if forward as being a fact that annoys me. It's a theory.

It's a science centre.

gibberish · 21/09/2007 00:21

Which is a shame as creation doesn't actually conflict with science.

It's the scientific point of view.

gibberish · 21/09/2007 00:25

Yes I know, but as I said, creation doesn't conflict with science. Infact backs it up.

Anyhoo, absolutely knackered (very very long day) but wouldn't mind discussing/debating this tomorrow (even although I'm slightly scared of you... ) Night
