Non refundable flights in June (not yet cancelled)

I have non refundable flights booked to the US in June through one of those third party sites. The agent has told me I can't get anything until flights are cancelled basically so I am just waiting for them to be cancelled but no idea if they will be though obviously we can't go either way. Please don't tell me I'm stupid for booking this way as I have already beat myself up enough but this was booked way before the whole crisis and I have basically accepted the fact that I might not get any money back. I certainly won't be booking this way again so lesson learned I suppose. I just wondered if anyone else was in the same situation and how they dealt with it?

If the flight is cancelled, you should get your money back. Doesnt matter if they are refundable if not.

If the flight goes ahead, and you are not prepared (understandably!) to travel, you may be able to change the dates - many companies have relaxed the rules regarding none refundable status, or you may be able to claim on your travel insurance.

Currently, it doesnt make any difference that you have booked through an agent rather than direct. You would be in the same situation at the moment.

If the flights are cancelled then you will get a full refund as they are not able to provide you with the service you have paid for.

If the airline then goes bust and is unable to pay then your travel insurance should cover it. It’s not a stupid way to book flights at all. It’s just a much more stressful waiting game in the meantime.

Where and with who are you flying.

We booked our flights to Thailand through last minute.com on Qatar only for them to cancel the trip after they had flown us to Thailand.

They said they will give us a full refund (as a voucher) but every time I check it’s still pending.

We had flights booked in May with BA to Boston which weren’t cancelled. I watched the plane fly over our house ☹️. They offered us vouchers and they are valid for two years. I’m happy with that as my travel insurance didn’t look like it would cover it. Good luck

We've got non-refundable flights within Asia this summer, the country has banned international travellers but its no refund, no credit, no date change, just lose money if AirAsia don't cancel. AirAsia Insurance won't pay out. Chargeback won't work.

If cancelled then as not within Europe the company doesn't have to do anything (and in AirAsia's case it's offered 2 year credit notes but no refunds and people are waiting months and no sign of a credit note or one then account frozen or you can't buy this with credit). Leaving Europe you would be entilted a refund then. Chargeback might well work in this case as well.

Insurance depends on contract - ours says if FCO advice is avoid all but essential travel they will consider claims at 48 hours before but internal flights are excluded unless within 36 hours of main flight. So that's £240 of our £1,130 less the excess.
