what do you want - B&B / self catering?

dustystar · 18/09/2007 10:48

How about staying in a caravan

Where abouts in the New forest did you want to go?

dustystar · 18/09/2007 10:48

oh and when

Wolfgirl · 18/09/2007 11:07

yep -anything really. caravan sounds good fun for a weekend.

sometime mid october - towards end of Nov begin Dec. quite open, but would prefer early autumn, in the leaves with that lovely sun and blue skies, wrapped up warm....an all that.

but has to be able to accomm. two adults and two v. small kids.

Try Oakdene & Shorefield on Hoseasons - the caravans arent too expensive & appear to have heating which you may need

Unfortunately the New Forest doesnt tend to be "cheap"

Wolfgirl · 18/09/2007 14:34

caravan is swinging it for me at the mo, will look into this. x thanks ladies.

sandy balls

dustystar · 18/09/2007 14:39

Shorefield is really nice and officially in the New Forest boundaries but as someone who grew up 10 mins walk away i wouldn't count it as the New Forest personally.

It is right next to some lovely woodland though and only 15 min walk to the sea. Plus they have great facilities.

Wolfgirl · 18/09/2007 14:41

ggirl - will contact them - thanks

dustystar - I want LOs to see the ponies walking aorund, they will love them. so want to be where they are tbh.

Then shorefield isn't for you. Not sure about Oakdene but if its where i think it is then theres no ponies there either.

It depends if you want ponies on your doorstep. Its certainly only a 10-15 drive to the 'real' New Forest from either of those sites.

this place is really close to some lovely parts of the open Forest where there are always ponies around and a nice pub with a big children's play area

Wolfgirl · 18/09/2007 14:51

thanks Cod, this site looks great, will contact them for info.

dusty - will contact the caravan site as well. Yes a short ride is no problem, I expect this tbh.

If you want the ponies (and cows) then make sure you are "over the cattle grid" - any campsite should know what you mean if you ask them. That way you'll have horses, ponies and cows wondering along the roads as we do. My dses (2.11 and 1.11) don't know any different and expect to see all kinds of animals wondering along every road, wherever we go, even Salisbury.

dustystar · 18/09/2007 15:55

Whereabouts are you piggy?

laughinglil · 03/10/2007 21:44

go to sandy balls. It is fantastic.I took dt's last december just before christmas and it was wonderful. The park is set in the new forest..you have wildlife on your doorstep.
We stayed in one of their new log cabins..and my dt's wanted to live there! (I did too lol)
