We have booked Crystal Active in Lefkas, Greece, and hoping the waether will be okay (desperate for a last blast of sunchine). Booked in a panic last night so have no idea if it will be any good - looks a bit like Mark Warner but half the price

We're going to Malta - but a bit earlier - 2nd week in Oct - weather supposed to be around 23c - but its still 30 at the moment so fingers crossed!

Kookaburra is it the Galini hotel? If so, it used to be a Sunsail resort till last year.

did you go on your Corsica holiday in the end noddy? I know you weren't sure because of housemoving (which i hope went ok).

Could do with some October sun myself after our summer!

We are off to Tenerife on the Friday before half term. No day weekend flights available and I can't do night flights with children. Choice of flying Friday or Monday but chose Monday because I think it would be less detrimental to their education if they have the Friday off before half term rather than the first day off after the half term.

The trouble getting authorised absence from school. Eldest and youngest (high school and infants school) no problem. Son in Junior school - unauthorised absence. The infants and junior school are in separate roads and buildings but the infants is a feeder school for the juniors. Strange that the "same" school gives authorised absence to one and not to another.

Am going with my mum, my 3 children (14, 10 and 5) and my brother's two children (17 and 12).

Went to Gran Canaria last year in half term and the weather was lovely. Bit cooler at night but still short sleeve weather.

jan-in-loindon - yes it is - have u been ? Any views? Seems to be a Sunsail-type set-up

kookaburra · 19/09/2007 17:30

bumblelion - I agree about a Friday being better than a Mon to take off, and also easier to hide because when you come back after the holiday the school forgets they were absent and never chases me for a note.

It is a tricky one that, as the weather in Europe has been so topsy-turvy this year.

My parents rent out their villa which is in Sth of France and our guests that have been there in the past few weeks report that the weather has been significantly warmer than usual - locals reckon that September and October are expected to be glorious and hot this year - more so than usual!

So, if you believe the locals, then the south of France could be a good bet - especially as you only have a week it means you won't waste lots of time travelling as flights are only 90 minutes!

On a cheeky note, if you are interested in Southern France, then I can give you details of my parents' villa - fabulously child-friendly and with tons to see and do in the area (other MNers who have rented the villa can vouch for this too ). They usually have an ad in the Classifieds, but it expired a day or two ago and I simply haven't got round to renewing it as I have 2 poorly children at home this week!

Good luck with whatever you decide

Kookaburra you could probably do a google on Sunsail Galini, but I guess as the place is under new management a lot of what they say won't apply any more. I saw it last in Summer 06 - they were ripping the place apart, so I am presuming there is a lot of refurbishment. Some of the rooms were looking a bit tired when we were last there (2002 I think). It is on a very steep hillside, so lots of steps to negotiate, but that means some great ocean views. Good sized pool, more steps down to the waterfront - a small pebbly beach and floating marina decking when we were there. In high summer there is a serious wasp problem, but you won't encounter that. Lefkas is a beautiful island - the main town square in great for people watching, and the marina there has some fab yachts. If there's anything in particular you need to know let me know.
