Virgin cancellations

Hi, I know a few of you have had cancellations. We are due to fly to the Caribbean in just over 3 weeks. Our booking is due to go ahead 😳
The airport there reopens a week before our flight. Our hotel is closed for a while longer. This hasn’t been disclosed by virgin (they are not taking calls etc for that far ahead).

If by some absurd fluke, if our holiday is going ahead, do we have to accept a different hotel?
We booked a specific hotel for a personal reason.
How far ahead have any of you had the cancellation? I know I’ll get the refund one way or another if it’s cancelled. Alternative dates next year are much more expensive.
I’m panicking, how can holidays be going ahead in May?! I’ve been keeping an eye on flight cancellations on Virgin Atlantic & Holidays. I can’t find out 3 days before, also if you have to isolate on return 14 days that would be tricksy to get past work after a three week holiday!

The FCO are advising against all but essential travel so if you don’t want to go you should be able to cancel and claim from your insurance company although they may ask you to pursue a refund from Virgin first.

I’m finding it bizarre how many companies are still saying that holidays are going ahead. Assume that they’re just so swamped with enquiries that they can’t get on top of things. I would think that going would invalidate your travel insurance too if your travelling against UK Gov advice.

Travel insurance basically say it’s down to Virgin. Virgin not responding to people flying before me (according to fb etc).
If a refund takes 90 days, ok.
The whole process of actually speaking to someone is a shambles,

Check in your terms and conditions. Some say that they can change accommodation to that of an equivalent standard in the event of yours not being available.

I am certain you won’t be going though. Virgin are struggling for cash. They won’t be refunding anything until the very last minute and will try and wiggle out of everything.

Trailfinders have cancelled all holidays to 7th June and this rolls forward a week at a time every week. BA have announced that you can get a voucher for any flights departing up to 31st July which is valid until April 2022. Tui have cancelled all holidays up until 11th June.

You should just let Richard keep your money he’s running a bit short, and he hasn’t found any new ways of extorting money out of the NHS recently.

I think they’re all really hoping to be able to fly ASAP but clearly it won’t happen. We are booked to fly on 27th May but the place we’re staying has kindly said they will refund us so that’s helpful. Easyjet insist our flight is going ahead and won’t offer a refund yet but will offer a voucher towards future travel. They admit they’re only actively cancelling flights within 7 days at the moment.

If virgin put the plane on (unlikely in 3 weeks) then you should still get refund from insurance if FCO still advising against essential travel.

Easiest thing to do is probably to try and change your booking until later in the year but who knows if they’ll still be trading by then.
