Have you been on a SIBLU holiday?

We are thinking of going to Brittany with our 3 and 6 year old next year. Have you stayed at one of the SIBLU sites and what did you think?

We went to a Siblu site in Brittany a couple of years ago. It was the Domaine de Kerlann site near Pont Aven on the South coast of Brittany.

The site was large and well-equipped. There were lots of little playgrounds dotted around, as well as the central area. Here, there was an excellent outdoor and indoor pool, complete with water jets, etc. for toddlers. There was a restaurant, bar, rec rooms, and an outdoor entertainment area. The entertainment was fairly naff - but the kids loved it.

We had the largest and highest spec mobile home which was very good. We didn't have a problem with our five kids in there, but we weren't tested with bad weather. Our plot was disappointing given the van.

We tended to go out for lunch most days, and then onto a different beach each day. All the beaches are different from one another and very distinctive. We would then eat in for supper. The nearby village had an Intermarche, and there was a Leclerc hypermarket about 20 minutes away.

Overall, we enjoyed the holiday, but felt very fortunate not to have to endure a rainy day in a caravan.

Have you ever done Eurocamp/Keycamp, scienceteacher (god I hope you don't teach my DS!) If so, how does Siblu compare?

We went further south, to one of their smaller sites called La Pignade, in Marennes/La Tremblade.
We won the holiday on Mumsnet!
It was our first time too, and I have to say the children loved it.
We went in early June (lucky enough to have a 2 week half-term so it was quiet).
Pros: site not busy, pool never too crowded
Small site meant not overwhelmed by the size of the place etc
Quiet site (suited us) rather than a really busy one
High spec caravan was spacious and very comfortable, much better than we expected despite some minor hitches
Sandy playground right by us - we could let the children play there
Friendly, helpful staff
Cons: Siblu were honest about La Pignade not being one of their bells-and-whistles sites, if you really want masses of facilities and a big pool complex, it's not for you
Wooded setting (beautiful) meant no barbecues by your caravan
Not everything locally was up and running in low season, which it still was
Long drive unless you can afford ££££ to cross to St Malo

We would go back, but actually we can't afford this kind of holiday as a rule! Very impressed (thanks again MNHQ)

WE have had 2 Siblu hols in France. One in Vendee and the other in Charente Maritime.

Both times we have really enjoyed (despite the bloody awful weather this year in Charente!) My kids love the kids clubs and the entertainment in the evening, the pools are usually great and we have met some lovely people. The staff have always been really helpful and the caravans are well equipped.
In comparison we went to a Haven (the British part of the company) caravan site for a long weekend two weeks ago and we were horrified. It was all about trying to get as much money out of you as possible and nothing seemed to be organised for the guests enjoyment or convenience.
It was surprising what the British will put up with or what the French will not tolerate?

lilolilmanchester · 17/09/2007 22:45

So is SIBLU the company that was Haven Europe then? Went to France with them many years ago.

corblimeycharlie · 17/09/2007 22:48

Yes - they are now in the process of becoming different companies with different characters etc.
Rory the Tiger in Britain and Max the Mouse in Europe.

Thanks. Wondered why I hadn't heard much about them...
