Would you book Centre Parcs for May?

And how would you read this about cancellation?

To give you that extra peace of mind when booking, if the break you choose to book is then affected by further coronavirus closures, we’re offering

Cancellation or refund, up until 48 hours before, with no amendment fee

That just sounds to me like they give us a refund if they're closed. It's not just letting us cancel and get our money back if we just decide not to go is it?

my understanding of your post is if you book but they are still closed then you get a refund.

Assuming they are still solvent.

They must know there is no chance so I wonder why CP would do this? If they have cash flow difficulty then they may be desperate to pull in a bit of cash to keep ticking over.

Roselilly36 · 10/04/2020 17:12

Waste of time booking, no way would the holiday go ahead in May 20.

PeachMoon · 10/04/2020 17:16

Ireland have just confirmed that lockdown is extended until May 5th at least, I would assume UK will follow a similar timeline, and remember the UK did start lockdown later than Ireland.

I personally don't think it's worth the risk, like other PPs have said, they could go bust before all the refunds are processed. While it would be lovely to have something to look forward to, even if you were guaranteed a refund, why add the disappointment of another cancelled holiday to an already rubbish situation?

KenDodd · 10/04/2020 17:19

Hmm. I should have done a aibu poll, it would have been unanimous.
Maybe you're all right. I half expect we'll have a series of lockdowns as the virus comes and goes and thought end of May might be a open(ish) period before another lockdown. Also I was only going to book if I was sure I could just get my money back if I just changed my mind. With regard the pool, I heard a virologist on the radio a while ago saying swimming pools should be relatively safe compared to other places because of all the chlorine.

We've already booked for mid May (booked before Christmas) and have no intention of going. I presume they'll be closed - we're going in Ireland ans as someone else has said, their lockdown is extended to 5 May, and I presume it'll be extended again and so CP won't be open.

Even if it was, I doubt we'll go as I wouldn't want to be sitting in restaurants etc every day just yet.

dameofdilemma · 10/04/2020 17:34

I wouldn’t.

We were supposed to be there this week and no idea when CP will refund.

justdontatme · 10/04/2020 17:49

I agree that there might be a series of open periods and lockdowns, but I think even during the open periods lots of travelling around the country would be discouraged & places like CP wouldn't be open. But who knows!

underneaththeash · 10/04/2020 18:13

I love CP, but it is a vat of germs at normal times, never mind at the moment. I places like this, where many people gather at the same time will be the last places to re-open.

Greenpop21 · 10/04/2020 18:13

Lol no way!

Dangermouse80 · 10/04/2020 18:15

No way, this is not going to go away quickly. At worst you could lose money if they went bankrupt.

Tootletum · 10/04/2020 18:15

I'm so desperate to go somewhere that I would also be tempted. Maybe end of may/1sr week of June.

donquixotedelamancha · 10/04/2020 22:45

I half expect we'll have a series of lockdowns as the virus comes and goes

That may well be true but the unlocked periods will not be back to normal.

In the vanishingly unlikely event it was open, you'd be stark staring mad to go.

Zodlebud · 12/04/2020 09:13

Two different things here.

No holiday ever will give you a full refund if you just change your mind and decide not to go. Within 8 weeks of the holiday that would usually mean you lose the whole lot as you are cancelling.

But if they are closed and unable to honour your booking then by law you are entitled to a full refund. If they have the cash. Many operators are being slow to refund money as they really would go bust if they refunded everyone straight away. Most are acting on a four to six week cycle - so right now are processing refunds for holidays that were due to start four to six weeks from now and working through them in arrival date order.

There’s no way places like this will be open in May though. Travelling to them is a non essential journey. I have a strong feeling that schools will reopen mid to end of May but all other restrictions stay in place.

Lucked · 12/04/2020 09:16

No. We were there in Feb and I remember looking around the subtropical paradise and thinking it was a viruses dream.

ellesbellesxxx · 13/04/2020 16:01

We are supposed to go to bluestone in May and would be shocked if it’s open again... we will book for next year and write this year off for holidays

StrawberryBlondeStar · 13/04/2020 16:05

@ellesbelles parts of Bluestone are being converted into a Coronavirus recovery centre so almost certainly won’t be open in May.

MasterCat · 13/04/2020 16:09

No way will non essentials be reopened by May. I wouldn't even be confident booking September.

ellesbellesxxx · 20/04/2020 20:38

@StrawberryBlondeStar that’s right... they have confirmed it’s shut in May now

Violetparis · 20/04/2020 20:40

Not a chance.
