Totally confused by cancellation / rebooking / options for a Big Trip to Asia

We have a big trip planned for July / August this year. Fly to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia for a 3.5 week trip. It includes

Lufthansa for Europe - Singapore
Air Asia for local flights
Accommodation booked through booking.com for Singapore, Kuching, Lombok.

It was a once in a lifetime trip and I am absolutely gutted that it probably isn’t going to happen. It cost a fortune in hard saved money, and is the first big trip we were going to take our two children on. We have all been so excited. I know this is a first world problem, I’m still sad.

I am also a bit of a rabbit in the headlights atm. I don’t know where to turn for advice... will we definitely not be able to go? Should we be trying to rebook for next summer? Should we preemptively cancel - and just lose the money on the non-refundable bits? Can we demand refunds if we cancel now? Each element of the trip seems to have different policies on this. Or do we just sit tight and see what is happening by July?

So confused. Thanks for any advice.

We have a trip booked in August for London to Bangkok with Evaair then Bangkok hotel via Booking.com, River Kwai hotel booked direct both non-refundable then Air Asia flights to Borneo and Perhentians. Borneo holidays are pay on arrival, Perhentian is refundable deposit and then 2 hotels booked on Avios points. So similar situation. Couple of taxi transfers booked and Heathrow airport parking booked as well as cat and rabbetry (if that's a word Grin) Have insurance.

It's a definite no go as a trip for us as vaccine won't be out, I've got medical conditions which although don't put me higher risk mean I have a lower immune system and often get temperatures and coughs. Atm I would be its very I might be refused flights and quarantined in both countries. Currently both are quarantining everyone from abroad. So it's a no go for us. I would expect there may still be a travel ban then but if you do go ahead you need to check what your insurance will cover out there. Ours is currently covering the virus but lots are starting to exclude. Medical costs if you get taken into hospital would be high. Certainly in Thailand they are billing you for quarantine. You could also miss flights due to it I would imagine. Our insurance doesn't cover the internal flights when I read small print, I've taken Air Asia's insurance but it's like taking Ryanair insurance, not overly hopeful.

Hotels I've tried to cancel now - non-refundable won't refund, one refundable won't refund (booked direct) - just deposit paid on that one, not tried Avios bookings. Flights air asia not refundable or changeable atm. Insurance won't pay out atm and may never. Paypal has said can't help. Not used credit card. Evaair I think we can cancel now for £720 and get other £1,400 back or wait it out. Though there's a shift to the credit voucher plus pay the difference. At the moment Eva is giving refunds for up to end April but that could change. Legally they are supposed to refund but law could change. Then there's the issue of if airlines go bankrupt - does your insurance cover bankruptcy, ours doesn't. Eva is in a strong position and Taiwan has said it will give unlimited bailout. Not looked with Air Asia.

If you are sure you won't travel I would try and see what you can cancel for free - not much in our case, just car park at heathrow and one taxi in Thailand refunded. So have about £4k at risk atm. Anticipating we are going to lose most of that. If airlines don't go under they may let us rebook but if vaccine not out that's worthless to us. Sorry that's not very positive but it's what I've found.
