I’m not denying flying has an environmental impact but at 2/3 % of Global carbon emissions, as individuals we would make a far bigger contribution by cutting down or out our use of cars (and changing the type of cars we drive), using green energy sources, insulating our houses properly, buying far less clothes (and recycling the ones we have) and importantly not consuming cheap meat from industrially farmed animals.
Over the last 2 years, ‘we’re not flying this year as it’s bad for the planet’ has been a lot more commonplace and from my experience, a lot of it coming from people I know who are doing bugger all else other than the weekly recycle to change their environmental footprint. None of us are free from hypocrisy in this regard but from the individuals I know, not flying isn’t really more than well meant virtue signalling. Nor are the considerable environmental impacts of not travelling taken into consideration - what adverse affect this will have on habitats and wildlife currently protected by the tourist dollar. Just to make this clear, I’m not implying the PP are merely virtue signalling re their decisions not to fly, I don’t know them and their personal commitment to changing their own environmental footprint from Adam, no direct offence meant honestly, I’m referring rather to individuals I know!
Back to the OP and off the environmental topic, no travel planned at all this year - depending on what happens we may have a last minute U.K. break. Depending on my job situation though, it would be nice to have a big holiday next year (off the top of my head, SE Asia, Argentina or California).
(As a quick disclaimer, I really don’t claim to be doing all I can environmentally. I don’t eat meat, I don’t drive, I recycle & upcycle & use green energy sources but god knows, sure we could do a lot more & I do like to travel!)
