I am from North East and am hoping to go to an event at Imperial College London, South Kensington. Going to stay over 2 nights at a Travel lodge. Wanting to know of any on the outskirts of london that I can leave car and use train/tube easy to get into South Kensington, London. Any help on tube travel greatly appreciated. Dont want to drive into London. Thanks

It might be worth phoning ahead and asking if the Travelodge you intend staying at has a car park as they should allow you to park while you still have a reservation with them. South Kensington is along three different lines (circle, District and Picadilly I think) so getting the tube should not be a problem, Where possible, try to get a Travelodge which is close to a station so you can just walk down and take the train.

just on my way into work will check and get back to you. Have you considered taking the train into London rather than drive in? A number of Travelodge's are close to mainline stations.

I hope this link works, this is a list of the Travelodges in London and it also has directions. Check for the ones near a station as getting on the tube is so much easier that way.

If the link doesn't work google Travelodge and you should find it.

My dad used to leave his car in Acton and travel in from Acton Town (Piccadilly line0 but I wouldn't recommend it - bit of a dodgy place - you could try nr South Ealing/Northfields and travel in from there - Piccadilly Line again.

My DH is the master of Travelodges these are his suggestions. The East side of London tends to be cheaper and accessible via the M11

ETAP hotel, East Barking £41, A12/North Circular road. Near-ish to Barking station which is on the District Line and direct to South Ken. Literally seconds from bottom of M11.

Travelodge, City Airport (ask for room not on airport side!) This is on Docklands light railway, you can then get the DLR to Canning town, Jubilee line to Westminster and a quick change on the District/Circle to South Kensington. This has its own car park so you wouldn't be leaving car on street.

Ilford Premier Travel Inn, near Redbridge tube. the hotel is over a pub, but is a proper travel Inn. It's a Central Line/Piccadilly line journey to South Kensington.

Any of these would be about 45 mins into London by Tube/DLR, so about an hour altogether. Good luck with your trip, I did my MSc at Imperial, have trudged up Exhibition road many times.
