That’s it really !! Flying on Friday but worried we won’t be able because of Coronavirus!

Yesterday was Atlanta to Chicago. Both airports had a tiny scattering of face masks but were fairly busy, the flight was not full. Our Atlanta event involved very strict hand washing as soon as people entered the building but was well attended. Chicago seems totally normal, lunch at a food hall with no special precautions evident. Massachusetts has declared a state of emergency but that seems to be just to access funding. There is a cluster of cases there, from a meeting at a biotech company.

Thanks for these updates! I fly to DC tomorrow and it’s good to know what’s going on.

It seems very calm here, but most of my impressions of what the U.K. is like are coming from Mumsnet so I’m not sure how it actually is on the ground there.

I came back to UK yesterday from Canada, all very low key in Canada, no checks or extra precautions at the airport, except hand gel dispensers very visible. No obvious signs when arriving at Heathrow either.
People here in the UK are more alert and concerned, talking about it much more than they did in Canada. I went to the supermarket and it was well stocked apart from no hand gel or masks and running low on medication, but everything else was available, but I feel like everything could really change here in the next few weeks.

Things are definitely turning more serious here in the US now. Chicago to Houston had significantly more masks in evidence at both airports, but the flight was busy. Quite a few people no longer coming to our event tonight. We have to sign a declaration about whether we’ve traveled to an affected country or have symptoms for our venue. Basketball and ice hockey are shut down, schools and universities are closing. The city of New York is producing its own hand sanitizer.

Now many attractions are shutting down. The big museums in Boston are shut and I think the New York art galleries are too. The Smithsonian in Washington shuts from tomorrow.

In Florida at present and Disney, Universal, Sea World and Legoland all closing this weekend. Covention Centre has had several big events cancelled at short notice.

Thank you for your posts, Am booked to go to USA, Eastern seaboard, New York, Boston, DC, from Aus, in 1st week of May, and following the events of the last few days, and the poor performance of Donald Trump, I do not fancy my chances of a trouble free trip, in fact I cannot see a chance or much improvement in the situation, so would prefer not to go, to be frank. I will keep an eye on this thread for further info. Many thanks

My colleague flew back to the UK last night from Houston. There were around 30 people in economy on a 747.

Boston is unbelievably quiet. We were in a very popular restaurant last night and it was half empty. The T (underground) was less than 10% full at 6pm. Traffic is very light in the city. Schools close on Tuesday. No basketball, no hockey, museums closed.

Well Donald has just added the UK to the list of countries excluded from flying to the US ...

Chemenger · 15/03/2020 07:07

Flight back to the U.K. was quiet, about half full. Quite a few mainland Europe people heading home via the U.K. Everyone is worried that flights will stop, people are heading home as soon as they can.

This weekend, govts of NZ and Aus, are requiring all overseas visitors and returning nationals to self isolate, ie quarantine for 14days on return to their respective countries, so the situation is developing rapidly. Govts here seem to be managing the situation more proactively than the UK. Also in Aus, no gatherings of more than 500 people allowed, Gran Prix cancelled, football, cricket etc not playing with fans in stadium, schools are still open. shoppers are panic buying in some areas, which is sad.
