East or West coast in Barbados

We're hoping to go to Barbados in July.
Trying to decide which hotel and which side to stay on.
After doing a bit of research am I right in thinking the sea is rougher on the East side, also the West appears to be more expensive. Why is this.
Any help would be great.

I think you have answered your own question! Beaches and holiday amenities are on the west coast. The east coast is cheaper because the ocean is rougher and suitable for surfing. Far fewer hotels and restaurants. Your choice but when most people think of Barbados, west coast beaches come to mind. Depends what sort of holiday you want.

I guess I had answered my own question haha
Just wondered if this was the only reason the East side is cheaper.
Any hotel recommendations... on either side ?
thx

We haven’t been for years! Others will be more up to date! I usually go by reviews on booking.com or similar. They tend to be accurate I think.

Most of tourist areas on west as ocean on east coast is wilder. Have stayed at the Crane and up near Bathsheba on the East side both wonderful holidays.

Crane Beach is amazing.

Also not been for years and hotels we stayed on the West I believe have now changed hands etc.

Who would be going is it a family holiday? If so I'd go west probably.

MarthasGinYard We are a family of 5 going with older children who are also hoping to play golf whilst there. We would all enjoy water sports which is why I'm thinking could the East side be to rough for paddle boarding etc.
We provisionally booked the Crane but now I'm questioning location.

In that case I'd go west.

Whilst the beach and at the Crane is literally world renowned it's not a place for watersports the Atlantic side is really rough.

Silver sands as it was on the South used to be amazing for surfing as did Bathsheba with world class surfing, enjoyed watching with my heart in my mouth Shock

For a safe family holiday I would look along that west coast with all the amazing public beaches and water sports.

However definitely drive around to the east to have a look at that amazing wild Atlantic.

Such happy memories from this thread have taken my down a Google mine and have just been reading about the develop at the old Sam Lords castle on the east. I used to love it there.

I'd look at a quieter resort on the West but with all the amenities.

Thank you MarthasGinYard for the advice.
Hope you manage to go back one day.

Have a fantastic trip

While the East coast is beautiful, it's not suitable at all for swimming or water sports, other than surfing - and I think you'd have to be a very proficient surfer to tackle the seas there!

Definitely go West coast.

Jessie40 · 02/03/2020 21:38

Thanks for all the advice. West coast it is.
