With kids or without?

One of our highlights this summer was a trip up the canal from Port de l'Arsenal (Bastille) to Bassin de la Villette (nr Cite des Sciences). We went with Canauxrama . The canal goes through a long, dark, eerie tunnel right under the Place de la Bastille and then up through four sets of double locks. Great fun! There's also a literary link, if you want it - the canal is mentioned in Zizou Corder's Lionboy which is one of ds1's favourite reads.

Is Coddy not around this evening? I have a couple of other things to mention, but not if it's a romantic weekend sans enfants

MrsCoddyClooney · 04/10/2004 09:02

this is my favourite bistro type place here
in the heart of the Marais - really typically french and not too touristy, was taken there by my french friends when I was in Paris as a student.

If you want a bit more upmarket than "bistro" there is Georges on the top of the Pompidou Centre which is very modern with amazing views - bit weird kind of dining room though.

have fun
Also Hotel Costes on the Rue Faubourg St Honore is great for a post shopping cocktail, afternoon tea whatever - tres cher but very glamorous and its right in the heart of shopping heaven.

oiseau · 04/10/2004 15:14

have fun was supposed to be at the end of post!

roisin · 12/10/2004 13:12

roisin · 12/10/2004 14:14

csa · 18/11/2004 09:16

csa · 18/11/2004 10:03

cool. thanks for all that all. will check them out. yes, going on eurostar. have enough air miles to splash out on free first class seats so looking for hotel over the internet cos' it's probably cheaper than booking through airmiles or travel agent. expecting no. 2 in april so thought dh and i could do with a romantic break before then of course, still need to convince mil that it would be nice for her to spend 3 days with ds

codswallop · 18/11/2004 12:09

can highly recommend Hotel Le Terrasse in Montmartre if you are looking for a romantic break - we have just returned from a long Eurostar weekend - it was lovely and Montmartre was the nicest part of Paris that we saw. I can HIGHLY recommend Willis (thanks coddy!) although very very expensive wine...also Wepler on Place de Clichy (near Moulin Rouge), fab old trad Parisian brasserie with great seafood and not that ££££

If you go for the Terrasse you must get a room on floor 6 or above otherwise its not worth it - we had a huge, panoramic view of Paris from our bedroom window and balcony.

Amazing
